“Holy shit! Who are these guys? Peter Buck was spotted at a recent show by these Athens, Georgia, kids who sound like Vampire Weekend on a semester abroad with Arctic Monkeys. Check them at MySpace.com - The Pendletons - Athens, Georgia - Tropical / Trip Hop / Lounge - www.myspace.com/pendletons and prepare to be impressed.” – Rolling Stone
“Instilled with an upbeat exuberance, the Pendletons deliver the kind of dance-tinged fits you’d like to picture Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang moving to if they had ever stopped bobbing and shuffling to Vince Guaraldi.” – Pop Matters (7/10)
“The Pendletons are the latest impressive rock act to call Athens, Georgia their home base, but their southern charm comes from a different place. Instead of relying on the rock roots that could come so easily to them, the quartet injects raw Brooklyn riffs into the mix to create a compelling cocktail.” – Stereo Subversion
"...a bit of ‘60s surf rock, a little folk-rock and some raw garage rock flavors. Immediately, comparisons to bands like Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Wilco, and The Fuzztones spring to mind." – Southeast Performer
Athens, GA sensation The Pendletons are back on the road after a month of some much-needed down time. Touring behind their breakout debut, Oh, Me!, the band has continued to gain a rampant fanbase of dancing revelers. The tour will kick off in hometown Athens, and more dates are expected to be added in the next week, including Brooklyn and New York City shows. The band is also confirmed to play the annual South By Southwest music conference in Austin, TX.
Frontman Adam Saunders was most in need of some relaxation, having spent the summer in an LA studio with The Whigs, cutting all the bass parts as well as guitar and vocals for the band’s upcoming Mission Control, out January 22nd on ATO Records. You can read Saunders’ take on recording with The Whigs here: http://www.stereosubversion.com/interviews-features/the-pendletons/.
The Pendletons have been getting loads of attention recently for the debut effort Oh, Me!, and frontman Adam Saunders has been getting some extra notice for his involvement on the new Whigs album (ATO Records). The band recently became a favorite on XM Radio, where its tune “Not Gonna Stop” recently became a listener favorite, with fan requests pushing it from the dregs of 4AM to prime listening hours. Rolling Stone magazine editors perked up their ears to the Pendletons’ first single “Sad Songs”, adding it to their “Hot List” for the last 40th Anniversary Issue of the magazine.
The band will also be debuting its video for “Sad Songs” in the coming weeks, directed by beloved Atlanta filmmaker Brandon Montgomery.
The Pendletons’ unconventional approach (which often includes providing free chicken wings at shows, or buying the entire bar a round of beers) has made then the talk of the town in Athens, and now the attention is spreading. The band’s sound can easily be described as “the best of Athens meets the best of elsewhere”. Oh, Me! highlights many historical features of Athens’ music—ultra-catchy melodies, flashy parts, and a downhome nature that harkens back the old days of vinyl-based rock ‘n’ roll. But The Pendletons update the traditional Athens sound in a way that makes even the stiffest concertgoers dance their asses off.
