THIS WEEK ON VBS - TERRY HALL ON SOFT FOCUS & VBS.TV vs MASTODON Yes folks, its a mix mash of awesome this week on VBS. INTERVIEW WITH TERRY HALL ON SOFT FOCUS - VBS.tv Back before it came to America and became the exclusive domain of dipshits and goofs, ska was actually a powerful force for social change. When the Specials emerged out of Coventry in the late 70s, just seeing a band that contained both black and white members caused the world to do a collective spit take. Then they listened to the music and racism ended. The world has been at peace ever since. Having previously played in a few local punk acts, Terry Hall joined the Specials a little after they were formed by buddies Jerry Dammers, Lynval Golding, and Sir Horace Gentleman. While Dammers was the main writer for the better part of their early songs, Hall’s alternating vocals with former roadie Neville Staples helped anchor the group’s sound and added a piercing English edge to their sped-up take on 50s and 60s Jamaican ska and rocksteady. Yadda, yadda, yadda. What I am basically saying is that this guy is a pillar in music and we got him. To see what he thinks about the past, the scene, Bono and what the hell he has been up to check out the interview. Part 1 - VBS.TV Part 2 - VBS.TV Part 3 - VBS.TV Part 4 - VBS.TV AND........ VBS vs MASTODON - May the best bowler win! In the debut episode of the series, VBS takes on the guys of Mastodon in the game of bowling. Despite ringing in Scott Martin from Crom the hometeam still gets its ass handed to them. Er, I mean, could very easily win or lose. Actually I'm seeing them tonight with Neurosis. Face melting. VBS BOWLER/AD SALESMAN/BLACK OUT MAN/ALL AROUND GOOD GUY JOHN MARTIN REMINISCES ABOUT HIS LANESIDE ENCOUNTER WITH MASTODON My surprise was learning that Mastodon knew how to bowl, and were actually damn good at it. I was also shocked to find out that bowling is taught at some institutes of higher learning and that Mastodon attended college, which is where they learned how to bowl. One other surprise that I should have seen coming: Whenever someone says they’re “awesome at bowling”, they’re usually not. The good bowlers don’t say shit—they just smugly sip their beer after beating you by over 100 points, game after game. Cheers, ****ers. VBS vs MASTODON - VBS.TV | |
