Orlando, FL – January 30, 2008
– If a covey of wide-eyed indie kids reinterpreted your grand pappy’s record collection, it’d probably sound something like the incandescent Band Marino. A swirling carousel of guitars, banjos and mandolins, their whims come in an old-timey vernacular. But boring neo-traditionalists they’re not. The folk trimmings, melodic verve and rock energy culminate in an effusive sort of carnival pop. Band Marino’s first nationwide release The Sea & The Beast is set to hit stores March 4th, 2008.
The city of Orlando has been pioneering Band Marino from the very beginning. The local indie record store (Park Ave) brought Band Marino to the attention of The Coalition of Independent Music Stores. From there the music was sent to all CIMS stores where they voted to make Band Marino the second band (first being Manchester Orchestra) to take part in their Developing Artist Program. “Our organization became aware of Band Marino in mid 2007 when the band had phenomenal sales at our member store, Park Avenue CDs in Orlando. Since then, our stores have all had a chance to listen to Band Marino's music and have dedicated significant promotional resources to helping them get to the next level in 2008,” says Don VanCleave of the Coalition of Independent Music Stores.
"It means so much more and adds serious credibility and value to us and our efforts that the most important indie stores in the nation are supporting us and really care about our music. The CIMS are more connected to music lovers than mainstream retail and that’s why they are significant to people like us and a band like us," says drummer Dylon York.
The recording of The Sea & The Beast was an eye opening experience for the band.Recording the album was a pretty intense. I think for us it was actually more about the experience in a lot of ways than the actual results. We hadn't spent a lot of time in the studio previously, and definitely hadn't attempted a project of that scale before, so there was a big learning curve. Everyone had to settle into their parts in a new way and listen with fresh ears. The application of all we learned has been pretty exciting. I think as an artist that's one of the most important things you look for, that you're growing from your experiences,” says singer Nathan Bond.
Band Marino’s energetic stage performances have turned them into a catapulting phenomenon in the on-the-cusp Orlando indie scene. Going from curtseying waltzes to dizzying freakouts, they tend to make even the dirtiest rock club feel like a rousing tent show on the verge of spilling over. And it’s this transporting quality that’s attracted a large, remarkably devout following in Florida, often selling out major hometown venues like The Social, BackBooth and Will’s Pub.
Band Marino’s enveloping sound may not be unfamiliar to your ears. They were recently flown to Denver to shoot a commercial spot which is currently running nationwide on Starz kid’s network. also performed at last years
SxSW Music and SxSW Film Festival supporting the debut of The Last Romantic, an independent film that the band scored whose cast includes James Urbaniak (American Splendor) and model/actress Shalom Harlow (Vanilla Sky, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days).
Band Marino has been performing non-stop with such notables as Stars, The Avett Brothers, Rainer Maria, Tilly and the Wall, Hackensaw Boys, Lovedrug, Switchfoot, Anberlin, The Ataris, As Tall as Lions, The Receiving End of Sirens, Cartel and Jason Mraz. After earning their fans- through extensive touring, word of mouth, and taking the time to speak to each person after their show, and last but not least, continuing to write intriguing and stunning songs- Band Marino are a band to watch in 2008. Be sure to catch them at any of the tour dates below and stayed tuned for a SxSW announcement.
