Yet another 'save the world' concert series
The Green Apple Festival has announced an expansion from 3 locations to 8 US city parks for Earth Day in April.
I find 'environmental' festivals and concerts endlessly amusing. Not only are they ridiculously pointless, but they're hardly good for the planet. They're always outdoor shows so you can enjoy music and nature simultaneously. But how is gathering thousands of drunk people outside to enjoy a concert going to save the planet? Some argue it's about raising awareness, but when is the last time you met someone who was unaware of this planet? I mean besides Sherri Shepherd.
Now, I am not anti-environment or anything, even after seeing Life After People and realizing that this Earth is much more resiliant than we give it credit for. I still think we have a responsibility to respect nature and preserve it and use human ingenuity to come up with solutions to our self-inflicted problems. But seriously, when has a benefit concert ever helped anyone? I mean, raising money for someone with medical bills is one thing. There is a clear purpose. But concerts to save the environment? Putting on a rock show to make people aware that we live on a planet? Shut up.
Anyway, the Green Apple Festival will be putting on shows in NYC, Washington DC, Chicago, Miami, Denver, Dallas, San Francisco and Los Angeles. So far no artists have been confirmed, but executive producer for the events, Peter Shapiro promises 'about 4 big acts' in each city.
