The Rolling Stones Keep Rolling

and rolling and rolling and rolling

The new documentary about the Rolling Stones, Shine A Light, was released in theatres yesterday and in celebration all of the Jack-FM stations in America became Stones-FM for a day.

Don't get me wrong, I recognize the legendary status of the Rolling Stones, but since they're still touring and still writing new material, this push to remember how great they used to be seems weird. Using a retrospective to promote new music is a bizarre and desperate strategy.

"Hey! Remember how great we were more than a quarter of a century ago? Yeah?! We have a new album!"

I have made the case many times that the public can't really miss you or even appreciate you until you're gone, and since they never left, I don't miss them and find it hard to appreciate the massive amounts of bad music they have been putting out over the last...well...over my entire lifetime.

Maybe if I see the documentary, my mind will be changed regarding the relevance of The Stones in modern music, but I seriously doubt it. I am not the type to give someone a lot of cred just because they lasted well past their expiration date. But perhaps this newfound interest The Rolling Stones signals the end of their way too long career. One can only hope.
