AT SIXTH ANNUAL GOLDEN GOD AWARDS
Metal Hammer magazine, the UKıs biggest and best rock and metal monthly
published by Future UK, is proud to announce the nominations for its sixth
annual Golden Gods ceremony. Taking place on Monday 16 June 2008, the Metal
Hammer Golden Gods will be bringing the biggest names from the world of
metal to Londonıs state-of-the-art O2 complex for the first time since it
was named the most popular venue in the world. Three legends of rock and
metal go head-to-head in the much-lauded Inspirationı category, which is
voted for by Metal Hammer editorial staff. Fresh from their headline slot
at this yearıs Download Festival, glam metal icons Kiss will share the
category with industrial pioneers Nine Inch Nails, who are currently hitting
the headlines for their radical opposition of the traditional music industry
model, and the mighty Slipknot, who transformed the face of metal with their
self titled album in 1999 and are expected to explode back onto the scene
with the release of their fourth studio album this summer. Also included in
the category are old school metal heroes Carcass and Swedish avant-garde
metal crew Meshuggah. Following a meteoric rise from relative obscurity to
national heroes, London punk rockers Gallows have traded in last yearıs
best newcomerı nomination for a nomination in this yearıs Best Live Bandı
category, which also features heavyweights such as Machine Head, Megadeth,
Turisas and the female-fronted Swedes Arch Enemy.
Elsewhere in the awards, three metal titans go head-to-head in 2008 with two
nominations apiece. US metalcore misfits Avenged Sevenfold, Finnish metal
pioneers Children of Bodom and UK chart bothering thrash metallers Bullet
For My Valentine have equal nods across a variety of categories, so it
remains to be seen who triumphs on the night. Nominated for the second
consecutive year in the Best UK Bandı category, Bullet For My Valentineıs
second nomination comes in the form of a Best Videoı nod for Scream Aim
Fireı, the title track off their current album, which debuted at number five
in the UK album chart on its release in January. Children of Bodom and
Avenged Sevenfold are both nominated in the Best Albumı category while COB
guitarist Alexi Laiho enjoyed his second consecutive Shredderı nomination
and Avenged Sevenfold picked up a Best International Bandı nomination
alongside Nightwish, In Flames, Dir En Grey and North Orleans metallers
Down, which features Pantera front man Phil Anselmo and Corrosion of
Conformityıs Pepper Keenan. Picking up a nomination in the Riff Lordı
category, ex-Kiss axeman Ace Frehley joins the likes of Slash, Megadethıs
Dave Mustaine, Opethıs Mikael Akerfeldt and Iced Earthıs Jon Shaffer for the
coveted title.
Hosted by Oderus Urungus from legendary metal crew GWAR, the Metal Hammer
Golden Gods 2008 will boast the most elaborate, bespoke production ever seen
from a rock awards show. Over 1000 rock and metal fans will make the annual
pilgrimage from the spiritual home of rock * Download Festival at Donington
Park * to Londonıs O2 complex to experience the Golden Godsı unique blend of
award show glitz and glamour and the heavy metal thunder of four live bands,
which this year includes Disturbed, In Flames, Children of Bodom and
Testament. Metal Hammer will also be hosting a second stage for the first
time ever, aboard the Thamesı finest vessel, the Dixie Queen. An exclusive
group of lucky fans will get the chance to see live sets from some of the
hottest up and coming metal bands in the world, including Bring Me The
Horizon and Job For A Cowboy, while chugging their way up the Thames to the
O2. The full nominations for the public voted awards at the Metal Hammer
