Morning State Releases Another New Song, Announces Some Tour Dates and More

“Band to watch! … reminiscent of early (early) Radiohead and the Shins—you know, all that good ‘90s-sounding stuff.” – RCRD LBL
“…unpretentious, straight forward, hook laden rock.” – SPIN Magazine

“Despite hints of early '90s pop-punk, Morning State's sound is fresher and less urgent than its influences.” – Paste Magazine

“one of Atlanta's most promising young bands” – Atlanta Journal Constitution

Atlanta’s Morning State is gearing up for the release of it’s full length debut You Know People I Know People, and releasing another free tune today. “Never So Strange” is a rambunctious late night sing-along. Beer bottles clink at the end of the tune, and the band says is captures the sleepless, collaborative aspects of recording the album. The band re-recorded the album in about 11 days in Athens, GA following the collapse of its former label. Numerous Athens musicians joined the band during the marathon insomniac recording sessions, and “Never So Strange” pays tribute.

Morning State will release You Know People I Know People on May 6th, and countless outlets are getting excited for the band’s debut (Pitchfork: The Pitchfork Guide to Upcoming Releases: Spring 2008). The entire album will be streaming for free during the week of release at AOL’s Full CD Listening Party.

Following several performances at SXSW (including an explosive late night jam session with Athens buds The Pendletons that made Atlanta Journal-Constitution headlines), Morning State is prepping to head back out on the road to support You Know People I Know People. The band has been rehearsing with new fill-in bassist Aaron Stephenson (known for his work with popular Athens band A. Armada), and will kick off some warm up dates by recording a very special in-studio session for Paste Magazine on April 18th. After that, the band will hit the road with The Winter Sounds, and join XYZ Affair and JukeBox the Ghost for shows. More tour dates are expected to be announced in the next few weeks.

Morning State will celebrate the release of You Know People I Know People, with two special release shows in Athens and Atlanta. The band’s Athens release show on May 6th is nearly sold out, and the May 15th Atlanta release show with Athens’ Casper and the Cookies is a free event.

WRAS 88.5 in Athens and Ohmpark.com recently released two exclusive acoustic recordings of a recent in-studio session with Morning State. Included are “Oh Yeah” and “Out For A Walk” from the upcoming album. Head here to check that out: Ohmpark: **Exclusive** Morning State - Live at Album 88

Backstory:
Morning State signed to a label last fall and recorded You Know People I Know People. The band then headed to the CMJ Music Marathon for several performances, including a VIP late night party with Pitchfork wunderband Black Kids, and Peter and Bjorn (of PB & J, of course!). Shortly after returning home, the band learned that its label had collapsed and was seeking money for the master rights to the recordings. With this, the band quickly terminated its ties with the label and decided to re-record the album with close friend Asa Leffert (The Whigs, Dark Meat, The Pendletons) at DARC in Athens, GA. The album was re-recorded in about 11 days.
