NY-based country/folk songwriter Laura Cantrell’s return-from-hiatus, Trains and Boats and Planes, is set for release on April 15th at all digital retailers. But for those eager to give the album an early listen, iTunes has it available one week early. The digital-only follow-up to 2005’s Humming By The Flower Vine, Trains is a nine-track collection featuring covers of travel-themed classics from Burt Bacharach, Merle Haggard, Gordon Lightfoot, and New Order. Adding to the album’s travel mosaic, Cantrell has included three catalog cuts that fit loosely into Trains’ transportation theme.

In celebration of the album’s release, Cantrell will take the stage at Joe’s Pub in Manhattan for a rare live performance on Wednesday, April 16th. Joining her live will be Yo La Tengo and Richard Buckner guitarist Dave Schramm, Jimmy Ryan of Morphine and Blood Oranges on mandolin, Springsteen Seeger Session bassist Jeremy Chatzky, Mekons drummer Steve Goulding, and special guest Rob Burger of Tin Hat Trio, and Bill Frisell fame on piano/accordion.
