Les Savy Fav Cover Superchunk, Offer Up More Live Tracks

By now you’ve heard the news: the best live band in indie rock is releasing its first ever live album on Tuesday, April 29th. Arriving on the heels of last year’s universally-adored Let’s Stay Friends, the digital-only After The Balls Drop documents Les Savy Fav’s 2008 New Years performance at Bowery Ballroom in NYC, a show that capped off a wildly successful year with an hour of insanity, serious celebration, and covers of classics from CCR, Nirvana, Misfits, Pixies and Love. So, to get fans ready for the record’s m.o., the Brooklyn smart-punks have unleashed a handful of live tracks and a cover pulled from the LSF vaults -- a rendition of Superchunk’s “Precision Auto” from the band’s City Sol performance last year, and three Fav oldies (“Disco Drive” and “Reprobates Resume” from Go Forth and “In These Woods” from Rome (Written Upside Down)) taken from a 2005 performance in Atlanta.

Speaking of live performances, a monstrous Fav-in-Berlin show is now streaming in its entirety over on Slyfi (yes, Tim breaks out the singing in the eagle mask trick!), and the band recently picked their 5 Favorite Live Albums (Possible) for Myspace. Meanwhile, Harrington and company have lined up a few dates for the approaching summer. Next weekend, the band hits the desert for a Coachella set, before heading to San Fran to play the Great American Music Hall with labelmates The Dodos. May and June are mostly quiet —save for a lone NY performance— before things pick up in July with appearances at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago and the Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle.
