Rock Band Offers Downloads

note to real bands: get your songs in a game!

Rock Band, the participatory game authored by MTV Games and Harmonix Music Systems, has now surpassed sales of eight million songs. But that may be the beginning of a formidable trend involving game-based downloads, one that will soon involve Grand Theft Auto 4.

Now, Rock Band is broadening into album downloads. Perhaps fitting for the game motif, the first album featured will be Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengeance. That opus was released in 1982, ancient history for many Rock Band enthusiasts. According to the game creators, the album - and its individual tracks - will be positioned April 22nd on the Xbox Live Marketplace, and April 24th on the PlayStation Store. The tracks, once purchased, can be integrated into the highly interactive gaming experience.

The album will cost $14.99, individual tracks will retail for $1.99, and points can be allocated towards the purchase. -Digital Music News
