Sarabeth Tucek - New Single ‘Nobody Cares’

Released on May 26th 2008

Sarabeth Tucek
New Single ‘Nobody Cares’
Released on May 26th 2008

The central thesis of Nobody Cares is a harsh one:
“When you think you’re all alone in the world
If you think you’ve never, ever been heard
It’s probably right, it’s probably true
’Cause nobody cares as much as you do.”

Sarabeth Tucek suggests that this is a lesson worth hammering home. “I think if more people realised that, the world would probably be a better place. The world’s full of people wandering around expecting other people to care as much about them as they do about themselves, and – unless it’s your mother or father – it’s not going to happen.”

From May 26th, Echo will be making Nobody Cares and the 1960’s-tinged psych ballad Ambulance available digitally. Both songs have been lifted from Sarabeth’s hugely acclaimed self-titled debut album although only Nobody Cares has received a Sunday Times Song Of The Year accolade where it was described as “a perfectly phrased Revolver-referencing slice of power pop.” Sarabeth has also announced a tour to coincide with the release:

16th May BRIGHTON Spiegel Tent at The Great Escape Festival (main act Martha Wainwright)
17th May BRIGHTON Unitarian Church at The Great Escape Festival
18th May CARDIFF Clwb Ifor Bach
19th May LONDON Luminaire
21st May BATH Porter
22nd May WOLVERHAMPTON Little Civic
23rd May GLASGOW Oran Mor
24th May BRISTOL Louisanna
25th May NOTTINGHAM Bodega

Sarabeth was born in Miami, but it was while growing up in Manhattan that she fell in love with her mother’s favourite music such as Cat Stevens’ ‘Tea For The Tillerman’ and Simon & Garfunkel. She went on to discover the likes of Neil Young, Big Star, The Zombies, The Velvet Underground, Television, Joy Division, The Dream Syndicate, The Gun Club, My Bloody Valentine and Elliott Smith for herself. However, more than any other, she worships Bob Dylan. “My whole life is wrapped up in his songs,” she explains, revealing, at a push, that ‘The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan’ and ‘Blonde On Blonde’ are her favourites. “He is wholly original. There will never be anyone like him again.”

Sarabeth has a sometime background guesting on Smog’s acclaimed 2003 album ‘Supper’ as well as collaborating with Anton Newcombe on the Brian Jonestown Massacre’s ‘We Are The Radio” mini-album and making a fleeting appearance in the infamous documentary film ‘Dig!’ where she is introduced onstage at LA’s Knitting Factory club as Anton’s sister, shortly before he kicks a heckler in the face. However, it is her recently released self-titled debut album that has caused critics to froth at the mouth. Produced by Ethan Johns (Kings Of Leon, Ray LaMontagne) and Luther Russell (Richmond Fontaine, Fernando), and featuring 11 tracks – from the bitter-sweet ‘Something For You’ to the heartbreaking, string-laden closer ‘Home’ – the record is nothing short of a masterpiece. And should you not wish to take this from us, take it from others: “stunning’ (Uncut), “absolutely amazing” (NME) , “amazingly accomplished” (Sunday Times), “ a dusky desert-folk gem” (Times).
Sarabeth Tucek releases her second single ‘Nobody Cares/Ambulance’ digitally through The Echo Label on May 26th 2008.
