Coldplay announce free single and shows

Coldplay.com to give away new single!

We're very pleased to announce that Coldplay's new single, 'Violet Hill', will be available as a free download exclusively from Coldplay.com for one week starting tomorrow, Tuesday April 29th, at 12.15pm UK time. This is a full week ahead of the single's conventional paid-for digital release, on Tuesday May 6th.

Then, on Wednesday May 7th, there will be a free limited edition 7-inch vinyl of 'Violet Hill' on the cover of NME magazine, backed by the exclusive B-side, 'A Spell A Rebel Yell'. You can pre-order the issue by clicking here

Free gigs in London and New York
Also tomorrow, Coldplay.com will announce preliminary details of two free shows which the band will play in June, one at London's Brixton Academy and the other at New York's Madison Square Garden. Full details of how to win tickets to both will be revealed on Coldplay.com in the next few weeks.

Coldplay's fourth album, 'Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends' is out in June. The release dates are as follows:

Viva La Vida Set For June 17th Release

“Violet Hill,” the first single from Coldplay’s upcoming album, Viva La Vida, will be available as a free download from the band’s website (http://www.coldplay.com) for one week beginning Tuesday, April 29th, at 7:15 a.m. EDT – a full week before it goes on sale at digital retailers. Viva La Vida will be released in North America on June 17th.

“Violet Hill” also debuts on radio this Tuesday. On the same day, Coldplay will post preliminary details on its website regarding the band’s upcoming free show:

Please check http://www.coldplay.com beginning April 29th for details on how to win tickets. As this is a free show, no tickets will be available for purchase. Coldplay will also be playing a free show at Brixton Academy in London, England on June 16th.

Viva La Vida was produced by Brian Eno and Markus Dravs. It is the follow-up to the immensely successful X&Y, which has sold 10 million copies worldwide since its release in 2005.
