Dave Stewart Of Eurhythmics Performs At Pangea Day, Prepares Fall Release And Tour

Prolific British songwriter, and one half of seminal synth-pop duo Eurythmics, Dave Stewart will lend his talents for a special performance at Pangea Day, a global effort designed to unite the world through the power of film. Pangea Day is a four-hour program of films, music and visionary speakers that will be held simultaneously in Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai and Rio de Janeiro on May 10. Beginning at 11:00AM PST, the program will be broadcast in seven languages to millions of people via the internet, television and mobile phones. The U.S. broadcast will be carried on the Current TV Network. Inspired by the 2006 TED Prize wish of filmmaker Jehane Noujaim, Pangea Day is a celebration of what unites us, rather than what divides us, via films made by the world, for the world..

“I think the idea of Pangea Day is quite revolutionary and is a sign of bigger things to come,” said Stewart. “It is great Nokia is championing the efforts of young filmmakers and bringing the world together through art and technology.”

Stewart was recently hired as a consultant for Nokia, the world’s largest cellphone company, where he was given the unique title of “Change Agent,” charged with creating new content business paradigms for the entertainment industry and leading the Artists Advisory Committee which ensures the artist’s point of view is represented in the “new world” and Nokia actively supports the Pangea Day mission by connecting people across the globe through the power of mobile technology. Nokia will be making it possible for people to capture their stories by distributing free video-enabled Nokia mobile devices.

This August, Stewart’s company Weapons of Mass Entertainment and Surfdog Records will be releasing the aptly titled Dave Stewart Songbook, Vol. 1, an album consisting of new versions of his most celebrated material backed by a full orchestra. In addition, Stewart will embark on a full-scale North American tour billed as Dave Stewart and His 30-Piece Rock Fabulous Orchestra. The show will include songs from Stewart’s vast catalog of classic hits performed in one-of-a-kind arrangements. In addition to smash-hits from Eurythmics such as “Sweet Dreams” and “Here Comes the Rain Again,” the songbook includes timeless tracks penned by Stewart including Tom Petty’s “Don’t Come Around Here No More,” No Doubt’s “Underneath It All,” Mick Jagger’s Golden Globe-winning “Old Habits Die Hard” and Celine Dion’s recent chart-topper “Taking Chances,” to name a few.
