Bands fighting to release new tunes
The popular independent record label TVT declared bankruptcy in February of this year. They had to fire their entire staff and drop their roster, throwing bands like The Polyphic Spree and Ambulance Ltd back into the abyss known as 'unsigned music land.' One would think these artists would have no trouble finding new label homes, however filing Chapter 11 prevents these artists from signing new deals or putting out new albums.
Both The Polyphonic Spree and Ambulance Ltd have filed suit against TVT in hopes of preventing them from selling off the contracts. Meaning TVT is trying to sell their bands to other labels, as well as the back catalog. This would give the artists zero say in what happens in their own careers.
The lawsuit was filed a week ago. Altsounds will keep you up to date on interesting legal developments. While the bands cannot release new material, they are still free to tour, so keep an eye out for these acts coming to your area. It may be the only way to hear something new from them.
