Diesel announces Diesel Box Office 2008, a cult film screening series that will provide sought after Diesel ticket holders with sneak peak programming focused on independent, avant-garde cinema and access to the next generation of filmmaking iconoclasts.
Diesel will be supporting a diverse lineup of highly anticipated independent films to present a year-long series of sneak-peek silver screen presentations on both the east and west coasts. As the most recent addition to the company's repertoire of programs supporting the arts, the Diesel Box Office series will partner with Flux and Idealogue in Los Angeles and New York City to produce local screenings and access to the salon-like after parties with the filmmaking community.
"Diesel is always exploring ways to support and sustain artists, and to give them a sense of what is possible. Diesel Box Office is a new way we can promote the discovery and development of great filmmakers, and to help their work reach larger audiences," said Renzo Rosso, Diesel's president and founder.
On July 1st, 2008 Diesel Box Office will present The Wackness, starring Josh Peck, Ben Kingsley, and Olivia Thrilby, at the New World Stages in NYC. The Wackness, written and directed by Jonathan Levine, is set in the summer of 1994, and the streets of New York are pulsing with hip-hop and wafting with the sweet aroma of marijuana--but change is in the air. The newly-inaugurated mayor, Rudy Giuliani, is beginning to implement his anti-fun initiatives against crimes like noisy portable radios, graffiti and public drunkenness. Set against this backdrop, Luke Shapiro (Josh Peck) spends his last summer before college selling dope throughout New York City, trading it with his shrink (Ben Kingsley) for therapy, while crushing on his step daughter (Olivia Thirlby). Famke Janssen, Mary Kate Olsen and Method Man round out the cast in this edgy, bittersweet, and funny coming of age story.
Diesel Box Office was first launched in the UK in 2006 with successful film screenings that unveiled major titles such as Volver, Babel, The Prestige, Perfume, Smokin' Aces, and more. | |
