The Black Ghosts Release Their Much Anticipated Debut Today and Tour The States This Month

Anthems like "Anyway You Choose To Give It" and "I Want Nothing" have dancefloor appeal-without the brickwall-limiting distortion-but move on to tracks like "It's Your Touch" and the Doves-like "Full Moon" and you begin to get a sense of how well rounded this album really is. – URB

With the cold, steely riffs and floor-smashing beats of the much admired Theo Keating AKA Touché, ably augmented by erstwhile Simian vocalist Simon Lord, The Black Ghosts have gained an omnipresence on dancefloors the world over with the bangin’ tracks off their debut full-length "The Black Ghosts” out today, July 8, 2008 on IAMSOUND.

The Ghosts start strong: "Some Way Through This" floats Lord's wispy vocals over cheap, synthesized Southern bounce strings; "Any Way You Choose to Give" dips into jacking territory complete with sing-along chorus and woodblock. The structures are poppy verse-chorus-verse all set to 4/4 beats, but Lord's sweet voice hides surprisingly witty, bitter lyrics. – XLR8R

This debut from electro rocker Simon Lord (Simian) and Big Beat vet Theo “DJ Touche” Keating (the Wiseguys) has a sinister allure when Keating’s dark, steely disco productions are paired with Lord’s whiny, desperate alto (“I Want Nothing,” “I Don’t Know”). Violence even seems imminent on the opener “Some Way Through This,” as Lord addresses an unresponsive lover: “If my hands were around your throat would you tell me what I need to know?” – SPIN

Unsettling lyrics divorce themselves from the seemingly joyous sound, making for yet another foray of the lads doing what they do best. Scaring their listeners. It just takes a discerning ear to figure that out. Lovers of perverse pop, rejoice – Filter

The Black Ghosts have just released the video for the album's frist single “Repetition” which features the guest vocals of the one and only Damon Albarn. Check it out below, and feel free to dance along!

Those that made it out to their Vice "Tales of Colt 45" Tour were able to witness firsthand the incomparable dance-floor wrecking sets that take place only when The Black Ghosts are up on the decks. If you missed it, don’t worry, they are making their way back stateside (dates below!) amidst performing at some of this year’s hottest international festivals including Gatecrasher, Rock Ness and Glastonbury.

JULY TOUR DATES

Sat 19 July : New York @ Fixed/Studio B
Wed 23 July : Toronto @ Wrong Bar
Thu 24 July : Chicago @ Smart Bar
Fri 25 July : San Francisco @ Mighty (w/ Holy Ghost!)
Sat 26 July : LA @ The Echo (w/ Does it Offend You, Yeah?)

** Sun 27 July : LA (US Album Release Party @ Turntable Lab)

While the set was anchored with tracks from their forthcoming eponymous full-length – replete with Simon Lord’s live vocals, mind you – Lord and partner Theo Keating dropped the best in the contemporary and future sounds of London’s disco circuit. – Big Shot

Touché's UK-styled beats coupled with Simon Lord's fervent vocals reminded me of when I first started going out to see deejays. Everything sounded fresh and I would come home drenched in sweat with my feet aching, looking forward to doing it all again. – Brooklyn Vegan
