Young Woman Behind The Story of To Write Love On Her Arms To Release Personal Journals
(Florida – July 17, 2008) Non Profit organization To Write Love on Her Arms announced today the upcoming publication of the first book by Renee Yohe, entitled PURPOSE FOR THE PAIN, which paints an intimate portrait into this young woman’s life. Comprised of poems, journal entries and personal experiences, Yohe is sharing with the world her uncensored memoirs which are near and dear to her heart.
PURPOSE FOR THE PAIN, is to be released later this summer by Orlando based publishing house, Bonded Books. The pre-order starts todayat To Write Love On Her Arms.
In openly sharing her story, Renee hopes to open the lines of communication between those who are struggling or those who know people who are struggling in telling them they are not alone in this battle. “I want to provide people with a journey toward the hope that I found, and to inspire them to discover their own stories. I pray that this book will start conversations for people who are going through similar situations, or who know people in a similar situation. Through both the ugliness and beauty of my story, I want people to see the tangible redemption that’s available to them,” says Yohe.
“Writing has always been an outlet for me to process my pain and joy in a productive way. It’s the most tangible outlet to connect people to my story, and show them a purpose for what I’ve been through and let them know they’re not alone in their struggles” says Yohe. She would like to continue helping others by traveling, speaking and finding avenues to invest in other people's recovery in a sustainable way. “There are so many ways I want to practically help people who are looking for a better life and a way out of situations that seem inescapable.”
“I feared my story would be like Emily Dickinson; that my writing would be discovered and appreciated posthumously. So, the fact that I get to share and see the impact of my writing is a dream come true” says Renee.
Yohe’s journal entries begin during the summer of 2003 and end in December of 2007. Here are two entries taken from the book:
Entry:
I am that orphan
I am that flower
I am that observer
And you have given me what i lacked
Thank you thank you thank you
I thank you
For giving me what I lacked, what I was missing
For seeing me, and giving me heart smiles
Entry:
I am in a white room alone. With bottles and bottles of liquor beautiful powder mountains and the pills (Oh! The pills!) There is no one here to stop me no one to save me
"To Write Love on Her Arms began as an attempt to tell a story and a way to help a friend. Renee Yohe was that friend and I had the privilege of telling part of her story. We realized quickly that this story was one that represented thousands and thousands of people, all over the world. We're so excited about Purpose for the Pain, as we believe it means that people will be moved and encouraged by Renee's story, in her own words. Renee has an undeniable gift as a writer and communicator and we believe she will be moving people with her words for many years to come" says Jamie Tworkowski, founder of To Write Love on Her Arms.
In February 2006, Jamie Tworkowski wrote a story, a glimpse into a Renee’s life and her first steps to recovery. The story, titled To Write Love on Her Arms, along with the t-shirts Tworkowski printed to help pay for Renee’s recovery, started a movement, not only within the local Orlando, FL community, but one that was swiftly embraced by people everywhere. Renee contributes to the organization by writing blogs, sharing her story at speaking engagements, and providing consultation.
When questioned if Renee plans on writing another book, she responds “While it's not my main drive or focus, I know there's more of the story to be told.”
