Festival organiser Anselm Guise recalls the successes of this year’s Glade festival - 23.07.08
“The fifth annual GLADE FESTIVAL was without doubt the best one so far. The weather provided great conditions for the fun that was to be had throughout the weekend - perfect temperatures, sunshine and a little bit of drizzle on Friday to give the ground a decent bounce! The smiles on faces were never-ending and we all breathed a collective sigh of happiness that the Glade was back and clearly better than ever.
With immaculate organisation across the board and a multitude of stages, vibes, art projects, performances and so much more crafted into one huge event, this year took everything to the next level. All the dance floors rocked big-time and every artist involved has been nothing but enthusiastic about the role they played in this phenomenal line-up.
PENDULUM pulled it out of the bag as always with a stunning set on the main stage on Friday night whilst the VERY WRONG INDEED CREW spanked it up in Sancho Panza. The PLUMP DJS had it in Breaksday and whilst the crowds partied below the clouds began to make way for a perfect sunny morning on Saturday. It was fully apparent by then that we were on for a good one.
Saturday was enormous. The Origin Stage, with its Captain Nemo-esque décor sitting in a backdrop of deep green forest, was a sight to behold. A huge sea of people could be found there at all times during the weekend rocking in the sunshine to music played through the extraordinary sound system delivered by FUNKTION 1 themselves. The Glade Tent was blown to pieces by a line-up that peaked with JAMES HOLDEN, SYSTEM 7 and the mighty DUBFIRE. The post midnight session was completed by a mighty performance from JEFF MILLS who polished it off with an intense five minutes of beats played solely from a 909. Pure Class! AUTECHRE delivered in style in the Overkill and everything else was off the Richter…
Sunday continued the theme of excellence being all around. THE GRANNIES were still grannies, THE RABBIT HOLE started hunting munters and the Liquid Stage’s roof struggled to stay bound down! THE ORB provided the finale of the weekend, blowing the Glade Stage apart.
The Glade Festival this year felt like it was a new festival again. It was perhaps more intimate but with the knowledge garnered over the last four years it ran like a well oiled machine except that the over-riding joyous nature of the event made it feel as if it had just been reborn.
Bring on Glade 2009. We’re already working on it….”
