On Tour In September
In the shape of Oxford quartet A Silent Film and London’s very own Lights Action, highly acclaimed label Xtra Mile Recordings has two of the most prominent forces in live British music today. Following the success of A Silent Film’s second single ‘You Will Leave A Mark’ and the widespread praise for Lights Action’s mini album ‘All Eyes To The Morning Sun’ the two bands are now set to hit the road together on a five-date tour of the UK with fiery upstarts SaidMike along for the ride in Oxford and London.
For London based five piece Lights Action the future is definitely bright. Having recorded debut mini album ‘All Eyes To The Morning Sun’ with highly regarded producer Richard Wilson (Paul Weller, The Magic Numbers) the band look set to take the UK Indie scene by storm. Having already performed with acts such as Boy Kill Boy and I Was A Cub Scout as well successful slots at last years Download and The Carling Weekend Leeds Festival, the combined passion and dedication amongst these guys has really started to pay off. The band have had radio coverage on XFM, BBC 6Music (for which their debut single ‘Satellites’ was record of the week) and Steve Lamacq’s Radio 1 show to name a few. In print the band have also more than made their mark with strong praise from Kerrang!, Big Cheese and Black Velvet Magazine. 2008 has seen the band take off from the platform they built themselves with amazing effect, Lights Action are a band who this time next year will surely be household names.
Following a string of successful support slots across the country with the likes of The Mystery Jets, Scouting For Girls and Athlete as well as mind blowing performances at the 2000Trees and Wakestock festivals, A Silent Film have been enjoying an all out roller coaster ride since the release of their much loved debut single ‘Sleeping Pills’. The release of second single ‘You Will Leave A Mark’ has seen the band shrug off the lazy journalistic comparisons made to acts such as Keane and Snow Patrol and become truly accepted as being in an element of their own. ‘You Will Leave A Mark’ has been a massively well received release and even managed to make it to the number one spot in The Sunday Times Culture magazines ‘The Hottest Downloads’. Debut album ‘The City That Sleeps’ is one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2008, with an expected release in mid October it looks set to be more than worth the wait with the band showcasing some awesome new material to great response at their recent performances.
Seeing your peers reach such great heights in such a short time could be perceived as a demoralising experience for some, not if you’re Pontypridd five piece SaidMike who after seeing fellow scene members Kids In Glass Houses and The Blackout get to where they are today were spurred on even further to succeed. Following the success of debut EP ‘Stop The Clocks’ the band have built a strong following and after seeing them live it’s not difficult to see why with an energy and rawness that accompanies the music perfectly.
