“Sigur Rós @ MoMA” Gives Music Fans Access To
Icelandic Rock Act’s Recent Sold-Out Performance in New York

LONDON – 5 August, 2008 – Current TV and Current.com have teamed with multi-platinum rock band Sigur Rós to air a special concert film titled “Sigur Rós @ MoMA,” premiering August 6, 2008 at 8AM on www.current.com This hour-long broadcast exclusive was filmed live during a recent sold-out show at New York’s Museum of Modern Art and combines live footage and special behind-the-scenes moments to document an intimate Sigur Rós performance that includes special commentary with the critically acclaimed band.

"It was amazing to be an Icelandic band playing at the Museum Of Modern Art, alongside an exhibition by an Icelandic artist [Olafur Eliasson] on Icelandic Independence Day,” said Sigur Ros bassist Georg Holm. “We were told to play quietly to suit the subtlety of this fabled and beautiful venue, so, of course, we turned everything up extra loud and rocked that s--- instead."

The hour-long concert film delivers live versions of captivating new songs, along with anthemic classics as Sigur Rós performs tracks from its latest album, Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust (with a buzz in our ears we play endlessly), out now on XL Recordings. The special will also feature interviews from the internationally acclaimed Icelandic band regarding their special performance.

“Sigur Rós is known for fantastic live performances, but their MoMA show exceeded every expectation,” said Current’s President of Programming David Neuman. “This film is more than a recording of the concert – it actually gives a sense of what it was like to be at the show.”

About Sigur Rós
Sigur Rós consists of Jón þor Birgisson (vocals, guitars), Kjartan Sveinsson (keyboards), Orri Páll Dýrason (drums) and Georg Holm (bass). The band were formed 1994, hail from Iceland, and have released five albums so far, plus a live/acoustic album. These records have won the band worldwide acclaim, in addition to global tours that have resulted in legendary performances at the Hammersmith Apollo in London, Radio City Music Hall in New York City and the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Sigur Ros’ fifth and newest release, Med Sud i Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust (with a buzz in our ear we play endlessly), takes the Icelandic quartet’s traditional sound in a new direction, adopting a looser approach in creating the brilliance contained therein, and exploring new instrumentation, dynamics and textures for their finely-crafted songs. The result is an album as affecting as it is beautiful, and full of the most joyous music the band has ever recorded.
