| | | Warner Music Group offering pardon (yuk yuk)
Once-invincible Death Row Records is now selling its assets to the highest bidder, and Warner Music Group is leading the pack. The major offered $25 million for the defunct label, according to recent bankruptcy paperwork filed in Los Angeles.
Death Row faced its own financial electric chair in 2006, at which point debt totals of $137 million were reported. But the catalog remains venerable, and includes the seminal Dr. Dre release, The Chronic. Other artists include Snoop Dogg, Tha Dogg Pound, and Tupac Shakur, though disputes surround portions of the Shakur and Dre catalogs. Also in the throes of bankruptcy is Suge Knight, the label cofounder that has been in-and-out of legal troubles for more than a decade. -Digital Music News Views: 29

In a new irrelevant study released Monday that makes you wonder how these 'researchers' keep getting funding, it was revealed that popular music contains references to drugs and alcohol. Shocked? Me too.
The only thing in this report that was somewhat enlightening was how the references are distributed. Apparently ROCK MUSIC is coming in a distant 4th behind Rap, Country and R&B. The only thing tamer is pop music.
Here's the numbers breakdown:
of the top 279 songs of 2005 (way to be quick), 33% contained explicit references to drugs and alcohol.
77% of rap songs contain explicit references
36% of country songs Views: 29

| | | musicians rally behind Barack Obama...so do I.
Today is Super Tuesday, which in the States means we are looking for a new president (thank you jeebus). Democratic candidate, Barack Obama has been making serious waves with young people and has picked up support from numerous celebrities and musicians. Yesterday, The Grateful Dead reunited in a sold out concert for 'Dead Heads For Obama' in San Francisco, where California's 400+ democratic delegates could lock the nomination for the young Senator. On the other coast, OK Go and Shudder to Think put on a show to motivate young voters in New York, and the Bowery Ballroom hosted a night of comedy, featuring Stella members Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter and David Wain, as well as Paul Rudd. Stevie Wonder has also been an outspoken supporter of Obama, putting on a show/rally at UCLA.
Circulating the web is a video called YES WE CAN, based on the speech given by Obama following his South Carolina victory. The video was directed by Bob Dylan's son, Jesse and features numero Views: 39

Notting Hill Arts Club
Sunday 17th Feb
£6 - 5pm till late
Big Wheel Tickets
Big Wheel are delighted to present a stellar line-up for the first instalment of Snakes & Ladders, the latest addition to the Notting Hill Arts Club stable.
Headlining, we bring you Paloma Faith. Surely one of the most exciting live acts to come out of London in the last year, burlesque singer Paloma is no ordinary musician. Glamour, crazed costumes and improvised theatrics embellish her Billie Holiday-influenced songs and heartfelt lyrics. Currently in the throws of signing a record deal you can be sure to hear more from this lady in the coming months.
Also gracing the stage are Liverpool three piece, Peter and the Wolf. These DIY folkists combine deliciously askew lyricism with shuffling acoustics that have raised many an eyebrow. When live, the band’s set-up is taken straight from the unconventional, delivering what is certain to be a fun and dynamic performance. Views: 50

Come and see what Rolling Stone is calling "Brilliant" and Village Voice calls "A masterpiece of absurd theater."
This coming Monday, February 11th, Human Giant will take over The Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in NYC and unveil new clips from the upcoming season of MTV's sketch comedy series set to premiere in March 11th. Hit me back to be their personal guest at the event.
This will be your last chance to catch them in this intimate setting before the season airs and they all become huge stars!
Staying true to that user-generated and viral video feel, "Human Giant" is intensified by a rebellious rock n' roll attitude. Never a dull moment, the series has featured a long list of special guest appearances including Ghostface Killah, legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk, pro surfer Kelly Slater, Mary Lynn Rajskub ("24"), Patton Oswalt ("Reno 911), Linda Cardellini ("ER," "Freaks and Geeks"), Rob Riggle ("The Daily Show"), and Brian Posehn ("The Sarah Silverman Program"). PLAYRADIOPLAY! Releasing full-length "TEXAS" due out March 18, 2008
Now, after a year of touring (with Gym Class Heroes, Fall Out Boy and Young Love, among others), Daniel Hunter is ready to unleash his first full-length opus, TEXAS. Says Hunter, a die-hard Cowboys fan: "I named it for the love of the state. I assumed somebody had named their album 'Texas' before, but no one had. I had to do it before someone else did!"
The songs showcase a slightly heavier guitar sound, but maintain Hunter's quirky outlook and pop aesthetic. "I actually write my guitar stuff first," says the musician. "Then I compliment it with some beats or keyboards." But whatever the case, there's definitely diversity at work. The ballad "Pirate and Princess" features almost orchestral flourishes, while "Tooth Decay" is more acoustic-based. The album also marks the first time Hunter has worked with a producer (Garrett Lee) and live drums.

Having just completed their first full UK tour, to great critical acclaim ("Stone Gods impress on almost every level.." 4K KERRANG!), British heavy-weight newbies STONE GODS are readying themselves for their debut release, EP 'Burn The Witch' due out Feb 25.
Made up of 3/4 of The Darkness - fronted by Richie Edwards, Dan Hawkins on guitar and Ed Graham on drums - and drafting in former Graham Coxon alumnus Toby Macfarlaine on bass, STONE GODS is an entirely tougher, edgier and heavier beast than their former band.
Having spent the last year slaving away over hot guitars, carefully crafting the songs that will comprise their forthcoming and as yet untitled debut album (due out in the summer), their 'Burn The Witch' EP is a dazzling and diverse mixture of crunching heavy metal anthems, irresistible radio-rock and sumptuous, ballsy ballads.
These guys are a glorious celebration of everything that makes loud, blaring rock 'n' roll so reliably exhilarating and their arrival represen Views: 71
