Here's to surviving the holidays with your sanity and limbs intact. After an ample amount of r and r and a bout with strep throat I've resurfaced into the horrid air of the working world. This time around I'm hollering for San Francisco's finest electro-organic let's-party-in-the-sanatorium duo, Casy and Brian. The tag team's debut full length release, "Catbees" is out now in limited edition format on Pish Posh Of North America. Equally appealing to progressive electro club goers and fans of spastic, traditionally instrumented live rock n' who-the-****-knows-what, "Catbees" operates like a maniacal, methed-up doctor with rusty, serrated scapel in hand, forcing heavy synth pumps and riffs, wild-in-the-streets punk-inclined vocals, and stomping, multi-genre drum beats into the ear holes of unsuspecting victims. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and head on over to the band's myspace or label site and check out the joint. When you're done please feel free to post news, reviews, |

“Holy shit! Who are these guys? Peter Buck was spotted at a recent show by these Athens, Georgia, kids who sound like Vampire Weekend on a semester abroad with Arctic Monkeys. Check them at MySpace.com - The Pendletons - Athens, Georgia - Tropical / Trip Hop / Lounge - www.myspace.com/pendletons and prepare to be impressed.” – Rolling Stone
“Instilled with an upbeat exuberance, the Pendletons deliver the kind of dance-tinged fits you’d like to picture Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang moving to if they had ever stopped bobbing and shuffling to Vince Guaraldi.” – Pop Matters (7/10)
“The Pendletons are the latest impressive rock act to call Athens, Georgia their home base, but their southern charm comes from a different place. Instead of relying on the rock roots that could come so easily to them, the quartet injects raw Brooklyn riffs into the mix to create a compelling cocktail.” – Stereo Subversion

Lenny Kravitz Announces
IT IS TIME FOR A LOVE REVOLUTION
New album set to hit stores February 5, 2008
New Single "I'll Be Waiting" is released:
I'll Be Waiting
NEW YORK, NY (January 4, 2008)-- Lenny Kravitz says it's time for a revolution and he is launching a musical movement to do just that with the release of his 8th studio album on February 5, 2008. The album, entitled It Is Time For A Love Revolution (Virgin Records America), is Kravitz's first new release in over three years; the record is a thunderous rock 'n roll call-to-arms, featuring a universal blend of soul, funk, and jazz grooves and the undeniably anthemic lyricism that's been his trademark from day one.
"I love this record and the feel of the record," Lenny Kravitz said of the release. "I felt like a kid playing in my bedroom, and that's the most important thing you can tap into, that feeling of being free." |

Toronto "instrumetal" thrash band Mastery have announced the departure of guitarist Jeff Dormar and drummer Kevin Joy.
"Due to personal and musical differences it was in the best interest of the band to let guitarist Jeff and drummer Kevin Joy go their separate ways," says Mastery guitarist Markus Armellini. "We are currently working on material for our upcoming new album and have decided that the new material will have a vocalist. We have someone in mind and will make an announcement regarding new members shortly."
Mastery's debut album, Lethal Legacy, was released through Corporate Punishment Records. The album drew critical acclaim from Metal Maniacs who proclaimed, "While Lethal Legacy pays homage to the classic thrash of the late ‘80s/early ‘90s with nods to Testament, Forbidden, Vio-lence and Metallica, it doesn’t sound as if the band are pinning for the glory days." Decibel Magazine has also been singing the praises of Mastery brand of "instrumental", as they gave the band |

Chris Walla Discusses New Sound and Solo Album
Death Cab For Cutie will release the follow-up to their major label debut, Plans, this spring, and the group promises to surprise fans with a mix of "the most uptempo, upbeat Death Cab songs as well as some of our saddest." Bassist Nick Harmer spoke to Billboard, revealing some of the new song titles to include "Bixby Canyon Bridge," "The Ice Is Getting Thinner" and "I Will Possess Your Heart," a nine-minute song which Harmer describes as Death Cab " our stride... we looked at the habitual things we've done in the past and tried to move beyond them."
Guitarist/producer Chris Walla adds that the as-yet-untitled record is "really weird. It's really, really good, I think, but it's totally a curve ball, and I think it's gonna be a really polarizing record. But I'm really excited about it. It's really got some teeth. The landscape of the thing is way, way more lunar than the urban meadow sort of thing that has been happening for the last couple of records."
He elaborates that the "cur |
Rock act OK Go spent nearly three years promoting its 2005 Capitol breakthrough, "Oh No." Now, "It's about time we moved on to something else," frontman Damian Kulash tells Billboard.com.
"Something else" for the band will be spending the next few months penning its next, as-yet-unnamed album. The aim is to completely finish writing the tunes before entering the studio this summer. The group has a "list of suspects" for producers, but is open to working again with Tore Johansson, who aided with "Oh No," in Sweden.
"We don't write very well on the road, which means we haven't written much at all," says Kulash. "It typically takes us 50 or 60 songs to narrow down to 12."
Still, after a decade together, the foursome has a know-thyself approach to songwriting. "After a while, we have all these ideas about what we should be making, song-wise. They're these reactions of what other people expect and what we feel like we're expected to sound like ... loud soul songs from four white boy |
old school rockers team up with radio to try something new
NEW YORK (Billboard) - At a time when acts from Radiohead to Madonna to the Eagles are pushing the boundaries of the standard record-release model, rock band Big Head Todd & the Monsters are trying a new business model as well -- and they're making sure radio is part of the plan.
The band is using its new studio recording, "All the Love You Need" -- slated for release in early 2008 -- as a direct-mail promotional tool by giving it away via special campaigns with radio stations.
The strategy involves customizing CD artwork with a participating station's call letters along with the imprint of a corporate sponsor and distributing it via direct mail, using each station's listener database. Thousands of copies will be provided to the stations. Sponsors help defray the cost of producing the customized CDs, and the stations pick up the mailing costs.
According to Big Head Todd manager Bill Rusch, the band -- which has sold 48,000 copies of its last traditionally issued studio albu |
According to PCWorld, San Franciscans are getting hooked up. With Wi-Fi that is. Meraki will be providing the entire city with free internet by setting up solar powered wireless repeaters on people's rooftops. Not everyone, of course, they are asking for volunteers. This is all part of their Free the Net program, an ad-supported approach to free internet for all. How the ads are integrated hasn't been made clear. This is a move in the right direction, though. This isn't publicly funded and has nothing to do with the government. Hooray! This new service in San Fran is an improvement on the existing Ozone program in Paris which offers free service to those who host repeaters and a small monthly fee for everyone else. As these things continue to catch on, we could all be using free internet in no time. BOOYAH! |
in support of debut CDEP One for the Good Guys,
Static Radio NJ (New Brunswick, NJ) will be leaving on Sunday for a two week tour of the East Coast in support of their debut EP, One for the Good Guys, available now from Black Numbers. Fellow Jerseyans Seasick will be joining the band as well.
Produced by Stephen Egerton (Descendents), One for the Good Guys is a throwback to when hardcore punk was short, fast, loud...and catchy as hell. Originally released as a 7" on Chunksaah Records, the CD version contains two bonus tracks. The band is currently working on their debut full-length which will be out on Black Numbers in May.
