Last summer, Altsounds reported about Akon throwing a fan off stage and into a crowd of people during one of his concerts. Today, Akon (Aliaune Thiam), appeared in court briefly to ask for a jury trial. He pleaded not guilty back in December on charges of endangering the welfare of a minor and second-degree harassment. He will return to court for trial in this case December 1 unless an agreement is reached between parties.

Drummer for local Austin, TX band Boxing Lesson, is set to begin his 60 month sentence in Federal Prison after being charged as a "narcoterrorist" under the Patriot Act. His wife is already in prison serving her sentence for 'conspiracy,' since she did not turn her husband in to authorities.
Apparently Jake Mitchell had been growing marijuana out of his home and selling it. Hardly a king pin drug smuggler, Mitchell still found himself arrested and charged with narcoterrorism, a charge usually reserved for the likes of Colombian drug lord, Pablo Escobar.
It should seem impossible that a US citizen growing and distributing relatively small amounts of marijuana would be considered a dangerous terrorist by the United States government, that sort of thing isn't so surprising these days.
In my opinion, this guy should get a medal. He is decreasing our dependence on foreign marijuana.

We've been teased about a new album from The Cure for a while now, but it looks as though they have finally set a date. Their new album 4:13 Dream will be released on October 14 through Suretone/Geffen.
Can't wait that long? Then look for the remixes EP 'Hypnagagic State' that drops Sept 13. The EP features remixes from 30 Seconds To Mars, AFI's Jade Puget, My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way, Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump and 65 Days Of Static, all royalties from the album will be donated to the Red Cross.

This Town Needs Guns, fresh from selling out the London Barfly last night, release their debut album on October 13th via Big Scary Monsters Records (Tubelord, Yndi Halda, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly). Trapt have announced a US headlining tour beginning almost immediately after the band finishes up its current stint as part of the ongoing Crue Fest.
The California natives who are supporting their recently released third studio album, "Only Through the Pain," will launch the headlining run tomorrow, Sept. 3rd in West Springfield, VA.
"Only Through the Pain," Trapt's third studio album debuted at No. 18 on The Billboard 200. In celebration of the new release the band has created a social networking website, OnlyThroughthePain where fans can stream the entire album, download customizable Trapt content, interact with other fans as well as the band, and much more.
"We decided to create our own unique social networking site for Trapt fans because of our frustration with MySpace," said front man Chris Brown in a statement, adding that the site is "simply a way for us to eliminate the middle man, or third wheel so to speak."

Metallica have just premiered the video for their single “The Day That Never Comes” on their MySpace page. The epic clip was directed by Danish director Thomas Vinterberg and filmed this past July in southern California. On working with the acclaimed filmmaker, Hetfield explained to MTV.com, "That's the beauty, I think, of writing vague but powerful lyrics — that someone like a movie director can interpret it in his own way and obviously, someone creative is able to take the metaphors and apply them to whatever he needs in his own life.”
The band have also just unveiled another song from their upcoming album Death Magnetic. The hard-charging track, “Cyanide” is now available for sale on iTunes.

Mexican acoustic rock duo Rodrigo y Gabriela will release a new live album - 'Live In Japan' - with a bonus live DVD on October 28, 2008.
The album captures Rod & Gab making their live Japanese debut, at Tokyo's Duo club on March 30th this year. The show had been sold out for weeks; such was the level of anticipation from their Far East fanbase. 'Live In Japan' mixes tracks from Rodrigo y Gabriela's acclaimed, self-titled debut album with older live favorites, and also includes a new track - 'OK Tokyo' as well as Rod & Gab's legendary solo jams recorded for the first time. The Chemists release their new single “Something For The Weekend/Tazmanian Devil” on September 15th through Distiller Records. The track was produced by Kevin Bacon and Jonathan Quarmby (Richard Hawley/Primal Scream) and additional production/mix by Adrian Bushby (Foo Fighters/Doves.)
The track is taken from their debut album that will be released early next year. The band are from Bristol and have already supported The Bluetones, The Crimea and The Delays on tour this year. Matt Lucas and David Walliams, stars of the smash-hit BBC comedy series Little Britain, bring their unique brand of scripted comedy and characterization to HBO in an all-new, six-part, half-hour comedy series, Little Britain USA. Filmed in the US earlier this year both on location (in North Carolina) and in the studio (LA), the HBO series will feature familiar Lucas/Walliams personas from their original UK show, as well as new characters created expressly for this series. In addition, Little Britain USA will also feature guest appearances by well-known celebrities, among them Rosie O'Donnell, Vivica A. Fox, Harry Lennix and Sting.
