Whatever it takes to keep them off the stage. |
50 years after releasing their first single, 'The Chipmunk Song,' Alvin and the Chipmunks are back releasing a new album called Undeniable. It's a covers album, including songs from Led Zeppelin, Bon Jovi and even Bob Marley.
While this sounds like an absolutely cringe-worthy idea, I'll admit here that my parents bought me Chipmunks records as a kid, my favorite being Chipmunk Punk which covered Blondie, Queen, The Cars and many more. The thought of them covering Led Zeppelin or Bob Marley seems like sacrilege, but if it turns kids on to good music, then so be it. |
I think this is for real?
Kid Rock is setting up a scholarship fund. For students.
His Made in Detroit clothing line is teaming up with Wayne State University to sell some t-shirts and raise some money. And I guess this money goes to help students. At the college level.
I can't imagine how stringent the standards must be to qualify for a Kid Rock scholarship. I'm surprised he didn't set it up with Zoolander's Center for Kids that Can't Read Good and Wanna Learn How to Do Other Stuff Good. |
Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother were shot to death last night in their Chicago home and her 7 year old nephew is now missing.
Hudson's ex-brother-in-law William Balfour was arrested last night in relation to the shootings and an Amber Alert has been issued for the 7 year old, Julian King.
Jennifer Hudson's publicist said the Oscar-winning actress and her family would like privacy while they deal with the deaths and search for the child. Will keep Altsounds posted with updates on this story. |

New York, NY October 23, 2008- An integral part of the rap underground scene of the late ‘90’s, Jurassic 5 has announced the re-release of their debut EP J5, with J5 Deluxe Re-issue on November 11th via Decon. Revered as one of the most classic hip-hop albums, the release introduced the world to the collective genius of Cut Chemist, DJ Nu Mark, Chali 2na, Akil, Zaakir and Marc7, who went on to record 3 other critically acclaimed albums and sold over a million units in the US alone.
Due to contractual disputes, this masterpiece has been out of print since 2004. Now on the heels of the 11th anniversary of its release, Jurassic 5 has decided to re-issue a limited edition of this album with a bonus CD that features 15 exclusive, rare songs and for the first time ever, a full length DVD that chronicles the moment Jurassic 5 broke through, as well as performance footage from their first world tour.

Andrea McEwan started writing songs when she was just 3 years old - “I have always made up songs. I was happy to play on my own and I taught myself a way to write down the songs. Later I became obsessed with a tape recorder.” Living on a diet of books - “I would sit on the roof of the garage and read two books a day” – and black and white musical films in her hometown Melbourne, Andrea went on to study at N.I.D.A., Australia’s premier drama institute, and on graduating was lured onto the stage working extensively in theatre and television in Australia.
Moving to Europe her successful acting career blossomed whilst behind the scenes Andrea continued to write songs. On a visit home she wrote and recorded a demo with a friend which she sent to some record labels “but I didn’t pursue it…I didn’t know how”. A chance encounter whilst performing at the Derby Playhouse led to her demo reaching the desk of Dramatico chairman Mike Batt.

On November 25th, Tooth & Nail Records will release No Gift To Bring, an EP from The Almost. The five-song collection, which will be available in stores and online, is an eclectic one offering up a brand new song from the band (the achingly introspective "Awful Direction"), a cover song, radically new versions of two tracks from 2007's Southern Weather and a little Christmas surprise. Fans who take advantage of the online pre-sale, which is currently underway, will receive free limited edition merchandise along with the EP. For further details, visit:

"It was actually a friend of ours idea," recalls Aaron Gillespie, The Almost's founder and lead singer. "She said 'why don't you guys put out an EP with a Christmas song on it?' I said, 'That's a really great idea - it would be a good way to get some cool things out that don't really fit within the context of a full-length album."

Florida indie rockers Copeland have kicked off their US Headlining Tour spanning the country from the east to west coast. Lovedrug, Lydia and Lights will support. The tour coincides with the band's latest release You Are My Sunshine which hit stores on October 14th via Tooth and Nail Records and sold over 10,300 copies first week!
You Are My Sunshine is a rich playground of sound unfolding into layers of angelic tenor, driving guitars, experimental backdrops and rousing lyrics (some of which can be found in an elaborate maze the band has recently confused web goers with). The production team of Aaron Sprinkle (Eisley, Anberlin, Pedro the Lion), Copeland vocalist Aaron Marsh, and mixer Michael Brauer (Coldplay, John Mayer, My Morning Jacket) joined forces with Tooth and Nail and the result is a brilliant 11-song collection.

LIVE AT WILTON’S MUSIC HALL (E)
Marc Almond returns to the live stage with an all new ‘Sin Songs, Torch and Romance’ set-list performing it in one of the most intimate and atmospheric venues of his career, “Wilton’s”, a genuine Victorian era music hall in London’s East End. Metallica have announced their first full UK tour dates for 12 years and opening for them on all 8 dates will be THE SWORD.
Conceived in Austin, TX, THE SWORD took the form of a cohesive quartet in early 2004 when guitarist / singer J.D. Cronise, guitarist Kyle Shutt, bassist Bryan Richie, and drummer Trivett Wingo joined forces. THE SWORD's live shows quickly became the hottest ticket in Austin as their punishing yet melodious compositions, mythical imagery and conscious effort to slowly immobilize audiences left music fans astonished. In the fall of 2005 they found a home at Kemado Records and their critically acclaimed debut Age of Winterswas released in February 2006.
More ambitious, more accomplished and simply bigger Gods of the Earth, which was released earlier this year, boasts huge, mountaintop-friendly hooks, thunderous drumming and oceanic bass lines cut through the air like a scythe taking down all in the band's path. The ominous vocals of Cronise weave fantastical tales rife with myth and mythology. THE SWORD is not to be taken lightly.

Their distinctive sound, described by Club NME as “one glorious guitar swamp” and by themselves as “no nonsense rock ’n’ roll” recently saw them charge ahead of competitors on Zane Lowe’s Fresh Meat to garner Radio 1 airplay. |
