Dorp - Pigs Do Fly / Cops And Robbers [EP]

Dorp - Pigs Do Fly / Cops And Robbers [EP]

Caned & Able

Whilst having a good approach to modern songwriting and tracks that wouldn't sound out of place on a specialist radio show, it's unfortunately a little difficult to warm to Dorp. As to why this is, I'm honestly not sure.

The tracks are upbeat, experimental and actually seem to mean something to the band, which is naturally, a good thing, although there seems to be something missing; that 'wow' factor that is all important in converting us to take to a new band.

'Pigs Do Fly' is possibly the more radio friendly track on this CD, and offers an upbeat yet gutsy sounding protest about everyday propaganda, whereas 'Cops And Robbers' (despite the incredibly cheesy lyrics) sounds a lot dirtier with it's pounding drums and sleazy guitar riffs.

Al in all, there is nothing negative that i can say about Dorp; they have a vision, songwriting talent, good tunes and without doubt, a drive to do something different, although that lack of 'something special' is really all that is holding me back from raving about this CD. Maybe they're the sort of band that need to be seen live in order to fully understand what they're about - a rare breed these days.
