Time hasn’t been too kind on the Papa Roach boys. It is also the age-old problem of trying to beat the first album and when your original is as good as infest it is a hard task. I also think that their fan base grew up and moved on without the band picking up new younger fans to take their place. It also coincided with the whole nu-metal scene as a collective, losing its depth and power.
The 2002 album lovehatetragedy is a very good attempt at a decent second album. There are lots of good tracks, with some very catchy chorus’s. The key thing with keeping this band going was consistency. They managed with this album to keep the ball rolling on their highflying career.
Then follow up Getting Away With Murder wasn’t quite as popular and was the start of their descent out of the limelight. This album does still manage to maintain a high level of quality, but like the predecessor it doesn’t reach the standard of Infest. They have always made great use of vocal harmonies and catchy melodies and tracks like "Not Listening" and "Scars" really highlight this.
Overall, these are both pretty good albums and are well worth a listen for a trip down memory lane. They have some great tracks and you’ll be surprised how many tracks you will remember. Definitely worth a purchase if you see these two knocking around in a bargain bin somewhere.
