Opening with faultlessly-placed, dark-tinged riffs played over a twangy indie chord, ‘On a Scale’ promises to be a radio-friendly tune with substance, and it makes good on that promise.
‘On a Scale’s greatest strength is that vocalist Adam Robinson has perfected that difficult task of providing anthem-sized vocals without sounding like he’s making an effort. But, if the powerful and distinctive vocals don’t win you over, then ‘On a Scale’ makes a second bid for your affections with bucket loads of angular-but-addictive chords that’ll fix this song firmly in your head for days.
The occasional chugging riff adds depth to what might otherwise have been just another enjoy-then-forget indie track. Super-slick drumbeats hold the whole thing together tighter than a pop song, making ‘On a Scale’ the best sort of radio rock: instantly likeable, while still being edgy enough to stand out from the crowd.
