The Chemists - Something For The Weekend [Single]

‘Something For The Weekend’ didn’t impress me at all. It was boring after the first listen.
The Chemists could have done a better job with the chorus, instead of just repeating ‘something for the weekend’. The Chemists are one of those bands who are good at what they do, but the style of music they play prevents them from going any further in the music business. As it is so boring that no one will want to listen to it.
The guitar sounds they use remind me of The Editors, but The Chemists are a bit more creative than The Editors, although that’s not hard.
The B-side track ‘Tazmanian Devil’ is a better song altogether. It’s got a hell of a lot more energy and a decent guitar riff in the chorus, which really caught my ear. I’m also not very keen on this guy’s voice. Just sounds like a pub singers voice if I’m honest. If the songs on The Chemists’ album are more like ‘Tazmanian Devil’ then it might be worth a listen.
I do wonder why they chose ‘Something For The Weekend’ instead of ‘Tazmanian Devil’ as the release off their album. It wouldn’t make me want to buy their album!
