Oasis - Dig out your soul [Album] Are these guys never happy? More music from people who never seem to be happy about anything. Oasis are starting to become the kid at school who are always moaning about something, and to begin with you are interested about their heartfelt dismay, but after a while you begin to tire of it and wish the kid would go away. This is what Oasis has become, for me. Been there, heard that, got the t-shirt. I really enjoyed this the first time I listened to it and heard it from beginning to end, then immediately went back and listened to the whole thing again. I thought it was very enjoyable, solid and entertaining. Do you notice how the above is written in the past tense? The album quickly becomes boring, because while there is talent and ability there, the whole thing comes with a huge dollop of contempt, and it all becomes a little too Oasis for my liking. Like a cheese omelette that has too much cheese in it. This is not just me wishing for the heyday of Britpop, although I do, and yes, one of the iconic songs from my youth was an Oasis song, so I do feel as though I owe them something, but this album is dulL (with a capital L) Maybe I am a little harsh on them. This is a lot better than every indie album that has come out since 2002, but that isn't that hard of a task, and there's a lot of good in here, there isn't a bad song on the album. If you are under the age of 13 and like indie music, you should be worshiping this album as your new god. It's just that in my opinion Oasis have seen better days. Maybe, for you, the initial joy that I had for this album will be sustained, and you will get a lot from this album. Listen to this album: Sporting a grimace. |
Re: Oasis - Dig out your soul [Album} A little harsh, I reckon. For me, it didn't sound like Oasis at all.... until I got used to it. It has it's low points, but personally I reckon it's the most inventive record they've made in years. And hasn't everyone been complaining that they've stood still for a decade? |
Re: Oasis - Dig out your soul [Album} I can't wait to check out this album. It's been a while since their last and I still play it to this day. |

I see you have a very cler and own point of view about this album, but have you noticed how you haven't told me one thing about one specific song?which is fine, i mean, to make your point about this album being so dull, but espeiically havign such a strong opinion (either good or bad) would be nice to actually have an example so that I could even understand what's the basic of your point of view, to understand if I second that or not and therefore to understand if, based on your taste (cause you didn't make much of an actual critical point beside your taste, but don't get me wrong, that can be fine as well) i'm with you and I can just skip this album, or my tastes goes in a completley different direction and therefore you saying you don't like itcould actually mean i would instead. You tell me you don't like it that much in the end, which is fine, but you failed to tell me why in music-related terms, which for an album review, is quite necessary as you can guess. But it actually made me curious enough to find and listen to this album myself, so maybe you promoted in a way the Gallagher brothers and they should thank you in the end :) |
Re: Oasis - Dig out your soul [Album} LondonerGroupie, I know exactly what you mean, and I have tried various different ways of review. I don't see how naming tracks will help anyone to understand what an album is like unless they have already heard the album, and thus they have already made their own mind on if they like it or not. Also, my job is not to tell people what to like. It is to give people an idea of what the album is like, and to suggest that they might like, or not like this album depending on their personal musical tastes. I also aim to spark debate in the comments, and so if people read the review and then the comments, they can get a general view of different opinions. It is a really interesting debate, though. We should have it some time. PS. I also try to be entertaining, which again, could be up for debate. |

Re: Oasis - Dig out your soul [Album} I think for a review you need a mixture, this just seems like this is your view on it not anything about the album. I personally hate Oasis so i don't think i will be having a listen anyways. Disappointing as they might be nowadays, they still released one of my top ten tracks of all time (for me anyway) - 'Fucking in the Bushes' |
Re: Oasis - Dig out your soul [Album} Fucking in the Bushes is awesome. I personally love Oasis so screw you all! Hahahaha |
Re: Oasis - Dig out your soul [Album} Oasis were the band i grew up with and i will always owe them some small debt and will always gleefully anticipate any new release hoping it won't let me down (Standing On The Shoulders.. anyone?). This album though i think is a breath of fresh air for any fan of Oasis it's full of tunes that don't rely on having that Oasis sound and those big sing-a-long choruses. I can't think of an album they've done that starts so brilliantly either the first 5 tracks are the strongest they've had with 'I'm Outta Time' destined to be a classic. Everyone is always going to be split on Oasis and your review shows that despite your allegiance to them in a way (like myself) you long for those Definitly Maybe years again, i for one though am just glad to see them trying to change and move forward with their music. Long may it continue. |
Re: Oasis - Dig out your soul [Album} OK I got this later than most. In fact it was a birthday present. When I got it my first listen was in the bath ready to go out for my birthday and I fell asleep and literally woke up at the end and went out and partied my birthday down. Since then I listened willy nilly but over the last five days I have literally banned all other music because of this album. At first I thought the album was too slow and it kinda bored me. When you hear it a bunch of times you start hearing more and more things that you never heard before and those slow songs you didn't like start stemming out their beautiful melodies and you go....Oh! I fucking get this album now. Ultimately nobody can sleep when there's disturbance or annoyance so my first listen says it all really. This is an album you can rock to and an album you can sleep to. I entirely disagree with the review posted above and would give this album an 8 out of 10 easily. The author quite blatantly did a one listen review and in all honesty my one listen review might have been the same. Dig Out Your Soul shows Oasis have got more going for them than ever and as much as I hate it they get more and more into the mind of the Beatles with each album. My mum today without knowing said how Lennon a track was before I had told her it was Oasis. Oh My! Well done lads. |
