MGMT - Kids (Soulwax Remix) [Single]
 

So, here we are again. You know the drill by now, Belgiun electro-rock-gods Soulwax (A.K.A '2ManyDJs') take a popular track and remix it into a dancefloor anthem; but according to a recent interview with mainman Stef Dewaele in The Guardian, this happens "only if we feel that we can add something to it".

According to this statement then, this remix of New Yorkers MGMT's brand new single 'Kids' is a blinding example of what Soulwax do, and is a great introduction to the band fo those who have never listened to their work. Following their successful mash-ups of Gossip, Klaxons, The Rolling Stones , Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem and erm, Kylie, the pressure to comeup with the goods has never been higher for Soulwax.

Nicely timed with the release of their first DVD 'Part Of The Weekend Never Dies', the club and late night radio exposure that this piece will get is great promotion for both MGMT and Soulwax and wil no doubt result in bigger things for both parties.

Sticking to his word, Stef and brother Dave Dewaele have given a lot to the track, and their golden touch has worked wonders on the aready previously euphoric hi. Fortunately for fans of MGMT, the remix itself maintains their signature 'hazy' and slightly hippy feel, yet greatly benefits from the additional point of view and creativity. By the time that the composition has played through, the listener has been taken on a journey from the mellow intro, through the bassy-techno interludes and into a full on headbanging rave at the track's uplifting climax. This remix is textbook; in that it offers the listener a chance to see the track under a drastically different light whilst still managing to maintain and to respec the original appeal and feel of the music.

Job done then.

Excellent song, remixed by great DJ's (it's essentially a 2 Many DJ's remix) - sounds good to me.

This is my favorite track from Soulwax for a while. I like it as much as 'E Talking' and 'Krack'!!

and cold-comfort, yeh their new direction is awesome! heavier than before i think. still reckon that the remix of klaxons gravity's rainbow is their best work though.
