Eugene McGuinness - Eugene McGuinness

Eugene McGuinness - Eugene McGuinness

Domino

Do not be fooled by the age. At 22 years old Eugene McGuinness is a creative and accomplished musician. The list of influences spans decades and the sound is simply fantastic. The self-titled album is Eugene’s second and is in every way as charming as “Early Learnings Of” whilst being a great musical improvement.

There’s a charisma to the satirical lyrics, the mixture of sounds and the boyish vocals. “Those old black and white movies were true” is a delicate and moving track, reminiscent of a 50s ballad. Bluesy and classy, the harmonic backing singing and gentle guitar make the track warm and friendly. Following this delightful number is “Nightshift” a completely different sounding song. It’s folky, fast-paced instruments and lyrics are foot-tappingly good. Another cracking track from Mr McGuinness.

For anyone that enjoys some alternative clever music and appreciates diversity this is the album for you. It’s the kind of album that will have one smiling when the rain is a-pouring and the winds-a-howling. Give it a listen.
