THE STEREOHOAX – THESE SONGS ARE ABOUT YOU EP PUNK MADE ME DO IT PRODUCTIONS First time ever seeing The Stereohoax was Edgefest08’ but since I have been listening to their tunes even went to a few shows. They finally dropped their latest five track EP ‘These Songs Are About You’ on October 30th with a CD Release Party at The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto. The band is comprised of five from Toronto they are Bowman - Vocals, Brendan - Bass, Anthony - Guitar and Joey The drummer! First tune off the EP starts in with a little punk guitar with some fierce drummage then drops into a ska reggae mix with vocals by Bowman. The tune is called ‘You Got Me’ a contagious melodic tune. Here’s a slice from the track Oh no did you just come back online to check? One glance at your email address and I'm a shattered mess / Those lips those eyes, those legs, those smiles, that smell, I am delirious / You got my heart pounding without saying a word / You got me / You got me jonesin' for you love once again.” This record was produced by Justin Koop; he worked with The Stereohoax on their previous 2007 EP. Koop also has worked with Finger Eleven, Grade, Jersey, Billy Talent, Silverstien, Tomi Swick, Saint Alva Cartel just to name a few. Bowman’s vocals on the track are decent, he’s not trying to be someone else, he embodies his own inimitable sound. When you hear Bowman sing immediately you think of no one else to sing the tune, that’s Bowman’s style. I hear major potential he just needs to practice. The backup vocals are emphasized at the right times, the timing and vibe of the tracks flow fits nicely together with all the instrumental elements, the bands chemistry is apparent. The record does not even give you the whole Stereohoax experience just a little sample. This band was diagnosed earlier in the Edgefest review with ‘BLS’, Better Live Syndrome for those who don’t know. The energy they give off is not captured on disc, the bands charisma is something you can only experience by going to a Stereohoax show. Although there may be a little redundancy with lyrics in a few of the tracks the band has these hooks that keep you listening, to sum it up a worthy disc to pop in. Before this ends I must jibber about ‘Bitter At The World’ quicktime “Just because you're bitter at the world / Just because you suck at life / Don't take it out on us” I like the whole set up of the tune, the vocals were perfect for the music and the message of the track is crystal clear. Another tune not to be missed is “B Sides and Box Sets”!! This EP should be heard, looking forward to a future LP most definitely! 11/05/08 ©FRIDAE2008™ Check Out The Tunez!! http://www.myspace.com/thestereohoax
