It's 11am and in a small corner of Exeter You Me At Six fans are beginning to queue outside the phoenix doors ready for the final date of the "Take Off Your Colours" tour, tonight being a Halloween show, due to start at 7pm, 8 hours away.
The majority of trains to Exeter are canceled due to flooding. Although the rain is holding off it is bitterly cold. People huddle together shivering wrapped in blankets. You Me At Six must be something special live. By 5pm almost all of the fans are queued up outside the venue. However, there are still 2 hours to go. At 7'o clock sharp the doors open and everyone surges forward fighting for places at the front.
Once everyone has finally made it inside Farewell take to the stage to open the show up with style. In a matter of seconds they have the crowd bobbing up and down excitedly to their feel good tunes. During "Zelda" items of Halloween costume are thrown on stage and the bassist, Buddy, tries to squeeze into a Santa outfit. This is definitely a sight to behold. To end their set Farewell play "First One On The Blog". Halfway through the song the other two bands run on stage to ensure the boys from Farewell end their time in the UK on a high. You Me At Six and Houston Calls are happily dancing away on stage and singing at the top of their lungs with Farewell. It is obvious that at the end of tonight every single one of them will miss each other.
Next up is Houston Calls, another American band. By now the crowd are really into the show and Houston Calls have no problem in keeping the spirits in the room high. Everyone in the room is ordered to dance and as a consequence of this not one person is stood still. The singer, Tom, is not afraid to get in the crowd and everyone seems to love him. This is starting to become a high energy show. Houston Calls end their set with "Bob and Bonnie". They've obviously enjoyed being on this tour, they exit the stage with grins from ear to ear.
Finally, the headliners of the night. The only British band on the bill and more importantly the only band to dress up. First on stage is guitarist Chris dressed as an escaped convict, followed by bassist Matt dressed as a nun. Next comes other guitarist Max in his fetching banana costume, then drummer Dan flaunting a giant baby costume. Finally singer Josh arrives dressed as Mr Incredible, fake six pack included.
Their opening song "The Truth Is A Terrible Thing" is impossible to take seriously with the costumes. The whole room is laughing, including the band. Drummer, Dan, seems to be having serious issues with his arm. He ploughs on until "Save It For The Bedroom" perhaps the bands most famous song. The pain is obviously getting to him. You Me At Six have to cut their set a few songs short due to Dans arm which later i found to be a ripped tendon. However, nobody moaned about the slightly shorter set. Especially after the final song "The Rumour". For the second time this night all 3 bands were on stage for the final song, this time joined by the rest of the crew.
You Me At Six definitely were something special live, it's a shame this tour had to come to an end.
