The Computers - ‘You Can’t Hide From The Computers’

‘You Can’t Hide From The Computers’ is absolute spot on, they will give you nightmares! Opening with a terrifying screaming vocal of “Destroy everything! Repent every sin! Destroy everything, as we’re all going down and we’re all giving in!” you might be alarmed and thinking this could all be screaming with no melody or substance. Think again! ‘Teenage Tourettes Camp’ is an excellent song, which beams youthful energy, ferociousness and snarls at anyone that dares to take it on. Not only does it consist of some cracking guitar hooks, and excellent drum work, it somehow captures the true essence of the harmonica, which completely takes the listener by surprise and cuts through the track with beauty! This song shouldn’t work, at all, but my god it does!

‘Love The Music, Hate The Kids’ is like being catapulted right into the middle of a gig crowd surfing with absolutely zero control. The guitar riffs on this pick you up and slam you back down, they’re absolutely brilliant. Its blend of punk-rock and roll leave you hitting repeat instantly. Echoes of 90s Brit Pop can be heard in the guitar riffs, but make no mistake this ain’t any prissy indie band, this is aggressive punk and it’ll kick your ass! If the Sex Pistol were new now, they’d have some competition. It will have you jumping around like a maniac and dribbling about seeing them live!

‘Must Try Harder’ should be handed out as medicine to certain big ‘rock’ bands who have become flat and boring! This however, cannot be said for The Computers. ‘Must Try Harder’ perpetuates their sound, their neurotic drum-beat-punk-energy blasts you into 1.45 mins of pure madness. The vocals are lifted by the guitar riffs which create a sound that almost scratches your eyes out, the only thing you’ll be thinking- is how the time went so fast.

Launching into S.O.S it’s clear this song is about the bass and drums. A slower song compared to the others but don’t underestimate. The song will bite you like a viper with a hangover. The guitar is raw and threatens like a rattlesnakes tail. S.O.S will have you planting your head inside the speaker, be careful though, the viper is in there and it’s going to suck out your soul!

‘Please Drink Responsibly’ is more rock and roll than punk, at first! With echoes of past greats, it has an all together more American alternative sound. Fast paced, raw yet melodic. A less snarling sound but again it will come back to smack you in the face with ferocious guitar hooks and pounding drum and bass guitar collaboration.

The introduction to ‘Hell Yeah’ is incredible and doesn’t disappoint. Like a determined junky chasing the next fix, it is aggressive, raw and completely disruptive. ‘Hell Yeah’ has strong punk ethos, it will take you into a fight and beat everyone up.

‘City Ghosts’ is a strange one, it echoes of punk 1979 in places but all too slow. Slight blues in places which is quite clever but you’re left wanting more…more attitude, more power, more neurotic energy! Although ‘City Ghosts’ has an all together haunting feel, like the grim reaper is about to take you under, you’re left crying out for something a little more unguarded and ferocious. You’re wanting that caged animal back which was present in the songs which precede ‘City Ghosts’!

If beauty and the beast made love, this EP would be the result. Go and buy it, then go and see them live and prepare to be blown away!
