GEHENNA 777 are a young metalcore band from the UK and Guardians is their debut release on their newly joined label, Basick. Guardians is 5 tracks of what I would refer as typical metcalcore/scene music but with a more hardcore, low growling vocal appose to a shrieking and screaming one. This is not to take away from anything that GEHENNA 777 have going for them as they do have a very good sound and the songs and riffs are of quite a decent standard, with some great production. The problem is that this is nothing new.

It is a sad state of affairs that I find myself criticising things because they simply don’t sound original but with the world and his wife being able to pick up a guitar thinking they can be the next Dimebag/Hammet/Rhodes/…(Insert your favourite metal guitarist here) it means that there is an abundance of new music out there, trying to be the next big thing. GEHENNA 777 are good and have some good riffs but never do I sit back and think wow! The key to doing well in this style of music is to try and be creative and if you can’t do that then you need to write some bloody good songs. Take a band like The Architects for example, they have taken a very crowded genre and tweaked it and made something special, giving it an edge, a certain epicness, with their shed load of technical ability.

Again I have to say that this is not a bad EP by a long shot but you will not be blown away. Worth a listen if this is your scene, as it might blow you away but I highly doubt it.
