Fresh, original and very cool. Dragonette's tracks make you dance, it may even force the grumpiest bastards to have a bit more fun and let loose for once. Their songs are more addictive than crack and coming from a person that would never describe themselves as a dancer, I found myself bopping along and moving my hips almost on demand to what I was hearing. "Galore" has so many infectious songs and choruses that within one listen you feel as if you have been diagnosed with Dragonette fever, honestly.

As long as you're open minded musically, you will love this band for their fun alone, regardless of their ability to write a chorus that is more catchy than a severe case of "the clap". Sometimes music is taken too seriously and Dragonette are here to bring the fun back into everyone's lives and, for a moment will make you lose all your "serious music" inhibitions.

By their sound I imagined Dragonette to be a New York band, but in fact they are a Canadian born band that currently reside in London. "I get Around" is the album opener and is the lead single from the album. It's a corker of an opening track and an amazing 1st single. By the end of this track you will be in love with Dragonette, guaranteed. After one listen to the entire album (whether guy or girl, bi or straight) you will fall in love with Martina Sorbara [Lead Singer and bassist] for her excellent, cutesy and sexy vocal delivery that has indeed progressed very well since her singer songwriter days. Producer Dan Kurtz was quoted as referring to this period as:

"the soundtrack to a girl riding a white horse wearing white pants, feeling very confident she won't stain anything."
"Galore" contains many of the songs that were featured on the "Dragonette EP" which was released independently in 2005 just before the band moved to London and inked their deal with Mercury Records. They are on I-Surrender records in the US which believe it or not, were the label that first found "Four Year Strong". This makes me excited to see what that label does next as I like a label with an eclectic taste.

Banging, upbeat, New York sounding, catchy ass tracks to check out on this album are; "I Get Around", "Competition", "Take It Like a Man", "True Believer", "Black Limousine", "Gold Rush" and "Marvellous" (which surely will be their next single). Every one of the songs listed have choruses that are so catchy and so good.

Deservedly the album provides a few 'Come-down' tracks which are much appreciated after the onslaught of dancing. Examples of this are "Another Day" and "Get Lucky". There are also moments where it rocks out more including "Jesus Doesn't Love Me" and "You Please Me".

"Get Lucky" deserves its own individual mention for it's retro 40s/50s sound. It sounds like something from a black and white movie, with all the amazing backing vocals you would expect from that era and Sorbara's vocal delivery is astounding. This track makes an excellent twist and shows that Dragonette can pull off lots of different moods and styles and has an excellent "range". Mad props from me for this track and the "Galore" album in general. I really love the transitions, the chords, the way the song rolls plus everything else about it.

"Galore" is a slice of fun in a music industry that takes itself more seriously than ever. If you're looking to just put something on to get ready for going out, or cooking a meal, or driving to work then "Galore" is for you. If your looking for something serious that will change your life then this is not the album for you.

If you just want some musical excellence in a fun package then slip on some Dragonette... you won't be disappointed.
