Dustin Kensrue is better known for his work with post-hardcore band Thrice, but over the past year or so Dustin has ventured in to the solo market. Dustin’s first album Please Come Home was released at the end of last year and did pretty well. The Good Night Is Still Everywhere is a Christmas album and features 8 cover songs and 2 originals. Dustin is a big fan of Christmas songs and decided to express this through this album.
The Good Night Is Still Everywhere isn’t cheesy at all and is based on the more traditional approach to Christmas songs, including such classics as O Holy Night, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and The Pogues Fairytale of New York. The songs are sung with a very warm tone and Dustin’s voice is so soft and easy to listen to. It’s Dustin’s passion for Christianity and his beliefs that give his sound genuine sincerity. The songs are very simple and seem to flow so easily. This is the perfect album to have playing on Christmas Eve afternoon to get you in the mood for the main event.
Dustin has shown his versatility through the transition of Thrice’s sound. Most notably on the epic Alchemy Index, which has four discs, each based on one of the four elements. Dustin’s ability as a songwriter has been cemented through works and his solo career is only going to get bigger. The Good Night Is Still Everywhere is a very welcome diversity from the average chart toss that is released this year with the aim of clinching the ever-important Christmas number 1, or simply exploit the shopping season. The Good Night Is Still Everywhere holds true to the traditions of the holidays and Christmas. Warm, tender and heartfelt, The Good Night Is Still Everywhere is something to relax and enjoy this holiday season.
