Lustra are a band that few people this side of the pond have heard of. They are perhaps best known for featuring on the soundtrack to one of the best movies ever made in the high school gross out genre , the 'does what it says on the tin' named film ‘Euro Trip’. The film stars Dawn from Buffy The Vampire Slayer and a few other random American twenty something pretending to be 17 and still at high school! The track from the movie ‘Scotty doesn’t know’ is included on this album as a bonus track, back to the glory days for some but a fresh track one would suspect for the majority of the music loving population. ‘What you need and what you get’ is a very accomplished slice of pop punkery which at times delves deeper and can become quite melodic and classic, this can best be seen on tracks such as ‘White Powder’ and ‘No one like me’. They move away from the surface shenanigans and discuss feelings and human emotions. The stand-out track on the whole album is track 3 ‘It’s a shame about Boston’. The track is a bitter shout out to stuff that doesn’t quite go the way you want it to, for example relationships, failed bands etc. We can all relate to things in life not going quite to plan but would we all have the opportunity to make a whole album revolving around our failures? If you are not a fan of the pop punk genre aka the type of music peddled by Sum 41 then you would be advised to stay well away from this offering. On the other hand if you were only the other day bemoaning how the music scene had been taken over by emo/screamo bands then get this album and prepare to be taken on a ride back to the good old days! Overall, a solid album with a few stand out tracks but nothing that matches the previously released and added as a bonus track on this album ‘Scotty doesn’t know’.
