"There was a time in popular music where versatility proved the key ingredient to many artists’ success. But somewhere along the way, versatility took a back seat to predictability. That’s where Ruben Angel comes to the rescue." - taken from Ruben Angel's Bio
This couldn't be a more false statement. Ruben Angel provides nothing versatile to the music industry with "Stereo Is Dead". There is no other way to describe his music other than "Justin Timberlake meets Michael Jackson in a blender". You can hear what he is trying to achieve in his music, yet nothing comes close. This is pop music, at it's most boring.
Opening track 'Stereo Is Dead' is the best material on the whole record. Up-beat drums, some good production and an Nsync style of music writing. This is the catchiest song, with an easy to sing-along chorus and some space-aged synths. The guitarist seems like he is trying to copy rock legend Slash on each track by busting out a cheezy stadium rock solo. Normally in an album you get a varied good track, bad track, average track then good track again, in a sort of random order. This however starts off ok, then gradually deteriorates. Meaning the worst track is number 7, 'Butterfly Machine Gun' that does actually sound like a beautiful butterfly being ripped apart by a machine gun. 'So In Love With You' sounds stupidly similar to 'Senorita' by the big man Justin Timberlake off his album Justified. Most of the tracks just sound like Ruben has sat down and copied his album.
Let's give JT a phone call and ask him about Plagiarism of his music shall we?
