The Status’ latest album, So This Is Progress, is a pleasure to listen to. There are two main reasons why.

Reason #1: Catchy, meaningful, and genuine lyrics:
In modern day music one might think it a wild goose chase to encounter lyrics that lift, motivate, and inspire. The Status however, are the wild geese you may have been after. In the poppy intro track, Back On Your Feet, the band urges, “Get back on your feet no more excuses, this is your chance you don’t wanna lose this.” And “The least we can do is try…” A clarion call to listeners who are down and out on life and need a pick me up

Reason #2: Traditional pop-punk sound honed to perfection:
Granted, this part makes the assumption that the aforementioned sound is one that you like. With that being said, This Is Not Goodbye, Can You Hear Me, and Where The Heart Is, all offer great examples of this.

The third and final reason is also where The Status appear to be a tad bit lacking. Bands of the pop punk genre saturate the web and record stores and, in order to be noticed and rise above the rest The Status would be wise to creatively expand their sound. Not leave their sound all together, but add something new to it, something that hasn’t been brought to the table just yet. Heeding this advice will ensure the future success of The Status!
