Mark Farina produces his new Jazz compilation CD, '
Mushroom Jazz Six' consisting of tracks from various artists including growing Jazz sensations
Dave Allison and The Jazzual Suspects. There is even a track from
Mark Farina himself! '
Mushroom Jazz Six' contains many tracks, some are particularly pleasant on the ear while others sound like torturing sonic passages from the
Antichrist. All of the tracks, while containing much jazz influence, combine
electronica and in some cases
R&B and
hip-hop also, bringing together a unique, and somewhat different genre of music.
Certain tracks, such as "
The Beat" from
The Jazzual Suspects and "
Fools Competition" by
Smooth Current interleave gentle, and soothing melodies with fairly upbeat, and stereotypical 'electro' drum riffs. These are the sort of tracks that are pleasant to have on in the background whilst doing something that requires concentration, such as work. None of '
Mushroom Jazz Six' contains the sort of music you would listen to as the main focus of your attention as it can get quite tedious and, in my opinion boring.
Certain tracks, such as '
The What?' by
Colossus, however are mind-numbingly dull to listen to. It is far too repetitive, with some lazy disc scratching and a few random bits of rapping thrown in for effect, which frankly, doesn't work - at all! Other than this, there are not too many bad points to mention, '
Mushroom Jazz Six' is just your average
jazz/electronic album, which is neither great, or rubbish. However, the combination of different styles does work reasonably well, and for this reason it may be worth giving '
Mushroom Jazz Six' a purchase and a listen.
