Altsounds - Dead Pixels - Words are Poison [Single]

Words are Poison, the debut single from Dead Pixels, is more of a spring breeze than a winter sleet storm, and its bounce-tastic composition is a welcome diversion to the horrid UK weather. A five piece band that covers more countries of birth than the UN, the Dead Pixels are a cheeky mix of 80s synth pop, underlying dance jives and a front lady so chic she is spell bounding. Words are Poison, with lead singer Lone Blomhoj’s intriguing voice caressing you like Mediterranean waves, is the perfect antidote for the indie kid who likes to dance when nobody is watching.

Their sound is a ‘fit in somewhere between pop dance side of Moloko and darker raw sound of The Kills’ according to bassist Pete, and it definitely sits on the cooler side of the popular genre. Words are Poison is a rolling ode to the almost dance song, pulled back from the abyss by fast and freaky drumming that knits it together and makes you want to squeak some serious Converse on the dance floor (in the cool way of course). The relatively simple structure and key changes of Words are Poison don’t matter a jot if you are looking for the next jeet to jive to, while not actually admitting that you like dance music.

Dead Pixels are currently writing their debut album, building it up in fits and starts and releasing little bits at a time, leading the audience like Hansel and Gretel to the candy house of music. ‘We have around 8 album tracks written, so a few more and we are there. We have loads of tracks but we just don’t think they all pass the bar we set for ourselves,’ says lead singer Lone Blomhoj. ‘Some may be B-sides etc… or bonus tracks, who knows. Maybe they may even release an EP first?’
