'Road to Revolution' is yet another addition to the Linkin Park catalogue. It’s amazing how many releases Linkin Park have actually had, compared to the amount of material they have written. If there were an award for the most successful exploitation of material, then Linkin Park would get it. 'Minutes to Midnight' was the 3rd original album from the sextet but in that time they have released 'Re-animated', which is a remix of their first album, 'Hybrid Theory', 'Live in Texas' and 'Collision Course', which is a collaboration with rapper Jay Z. So now with the addition of 'Road to Revolution', Linkin Park have successfully released 7 albums off of the back of 3 albums worth of material. This may be slightly lazy of Linkin Park, but it’s worked and they have become very successful off the back of these releases.

'Road to Revolution' contains a CD and DVD of their live performance at the Milton Keynes Bowl in 2008. The set consists of 18 tracks taken from all of Linkin Park’s albums, but with the main emphasis on playing material from the latest album, 'Minutes to Midnight'. 'Road to Revolution', of course, includes all the classic Linkin Park tracks that brought them to where they are today and brings the length of this feature up to the 80 minute mark, a considerable extension on the 30-40 minutes you get on one of Linkin Park’s albums. The fact that 'Road to Revolution' is a double disk release is a very welcomed feature, it’s often hard to find the time to sit down and watch music DVDs more than a few times, so being given the option to put the audio on your iPod so you can listen whenever you like was a good choice and means more use for the user.

The quality is as you would expect; pretty high, but it has got a very live feel to it. Some live releases are very over produced and sound almost studio like, but 'Road to Revolution' gives you a real sense of space and makes you feel the expanse of the arena. The inclusion of two Jay Z collaborations on the DVD ensure that there is a full spectrum of material, ranging from heavier, new metal numbers, slower ballads to rap rock at its finest. The newer material is not as good as the classics but it works better on a live format than on a physical release. Tracks like 'Bleed It Out' have such a larger impact with the live audience interaction.

Overall 'Road to Revolution' is generally good and can’t be faulted in many ways. BUT, how many different versions of a song do people want or need? Fortunately for Linkin Park they have the fan base and demand for such a release. So if you’re a hardcore fan you’ll love "Road to Revolution" and if you're not it’s just more of the same stuff you’ve heard before and probably won't do anything for you.
