I've been trying to think of the things that I can do in 1 minute 42 seconds and to be honest I can't think of anything meaningful that I can do in that time (no dirty jokes please!).
Cuddly Shark; on the other hand, can unleash something as immediate and unrelenting as '
Woody Woodpecker' even throwing the first 30 seconds away as an intro, very ballsy indeed. Colin Reid's vocal ripping into someone who clearly has grated his nut-sack once to often "
Fuck sake, not much more can I take" about sums up his frustration as '
Woody Woodpecker' barks the tale of that annoying person who has been placed in the world with the sole purpose of grinding your gears. This doesn't out stay it's welcome and I don't think it ever could, undoubtedly going to be received gloriously live with it's rousing chorus of "
peck, peck, peck, peck...".
'
Bowl of Cherries' follows and is a full on assault to the system with Reid once again barking out discomforts accompanied by an incessant pounding rhythm and buzz-saw hooks just dying to be amplified more. Add to that the single note piano thump in and around the chorus just for good measure this is; and I quote, "
some sort of sonic fit of rage".
Just for good measure they have thrown in a treat with
'A Nod to =W=' a wonderful little ode to the joys of the band Weezer that sounds criminally like an actual Weezer track but then what better way to pay homage to your heroes. "
I've got all their songs, and I've seen them a hundred times. It's because I love Weezer", how sweet.
This double a-side single may clock in at under 4 minutes but it's 4 minutes more than you ever get from so much else that's out in the ether these days. Blindingly brilliant.
