Do you like generic punk rock that is fun to listen to but adds nothing new to the musical melting pot? If so, then
Shattered Feeling by
Guns on the Roof is definitely for your ears and is well worth a listen. If not, then I advise you to steer very much clear of this single.
Shattered Feeling offers nothing new. From the intro riff, to the gang chants and everything in between. As you listen on you get this ever present amnesia feeling, but alas you have not heard this song before, you have just heard every other punk band since the existence of time doing the same song. Musically speaking it's well played. The drums are driving although really, really simple with the only change being the swap to the ride's bell instead of the hi-hat. This drummers kit could involve a hi-hat, a crash, a ride, kick and snare and he would be good to go!
The worst thing on offer here for me is the vocals. They just don't simply seem to fit very well with what the rest of the band are doing and could do with a lot more feeling and emotion being interjected into them. As it stands right now they are very two dimensional with a lot of double tracking being used to add power to what would otherwise be a weak voice. This double tracking has not been done subtly enough and as such gives a really nasty 80's effect laden sound to the vocals. The gang vocals, although weak are a nice touch with regards to keeping the monotony of this song from overtaking you, forcing you to end your life before the song is over.
In today's musical environment where bands are a dime a dozen, you need everything you can to stand above the crowd.
Guns on the Roof will not change your perception on life, they will not offer you anything new, they will simply offer to waste your time on yet another generic punk song. It's just this time the singer is worse than normal, and would be more suited to a band of a different genre (classic rock?) as he doesn't appear to have the personality that a great punk singer needs to possess. Finally, WTF is the band name all about? So there are guns on the roof? What's gonna happen? Are they gonna shoot some tiles off?
A generic, boring song from a terribly named band that [after more than 5 listens] will force you to eject this CD and annihilate it in the quickest and easiest way possible. Do not give up the day job boys.
