The Screaming Lights - GMN/Glow

Hailing from Liverpool, the city that has flattered to deceive ever since The Beatles cashed in the entire city’s musical talent forever - NAUGHTY Fab Four! - Screaming Lights are a bit like a scouse version of The Music, and not just for their curls.

This double A-side starts off with "GMN"; opening with ridiculously melodramatic synths, taken from some terrible 80’s German dance track, “GMN” soon changes tack altogether with relentless guitars driving the song on alongside vocals that border a little too closely on a measured croon, before the synths reappear.....and the crowd go “eek”. Synths are great lads, just don’t buy them from Argos! OK yes, I am sure it’s really a Korg, but even they can sound shit, you know? “GMN” is sure to appear on ‘Songs you can drive your car really fast to on your way home from the pub, which really you shouldn’t be doing after those 4 Stellas’ in the near future. I’ll be on the bus with something far less tiresome on my iPod, glad that I didn’t get in the car with that idiot.

The more steady paced “Glow” is much more interesting. Centred around a rather nice guitar strum and minimal vocals, it suffers only from being a little too comfortable where it is, although this could perhaps be explained by the band running out of ideas for it? But still, it demonstrates that Screaming Lights could have something to offer if they stay away from the naff synths, and hold back on the vocals a bit. Less is more boys, less is more....for you guys at least.

just registered to say this is an absoloute bollocks interview.
i dont know the band but i've heard these songs and they are incredible.
you'll be regretting this bullshit interview in about a year,
especially since radio 1 have recently started molesting 'Screaming Lights' so go back to your terrible terrible life.

It's a review, not an interview - dickface! Clearly you know the difference as well as you know the difference between good and distinctly average music.

Hey I have just realised, this is my first "member of a band/fan creating an account just so they can have a go at someone who realises how average their band are"!

I've finally arrived - thanks callumm!

"distinctly average music."

"Naff synths"

what a load of bullshit. Screaming Lights unique sound is going to be soo big in 2009, an i wish the band all the best with it.

Seriously now lads, you're embarrassing yourselves by creating accounts and pretending to not know yourselves.

All the best with your career, I am sure you will be resonably big, just like Keane, The Enemy and Razorlight, who also distinctly average (at best).

One day you may actually learn something about music, and finally realise that how 'big' you make it means fuck all in relation to how good you actually are. I look forward to forgetting all about your band in years to come.

Who are we talking about again?

Isn't the only immature person here you? I mean come on man, music is all about personal opinion and in this instance, the reviewer didn't really love the band. So what? He still gave it 5 out of 10 which is a positive review so they are blatantly doing things both right and wrong.

Heron things the band are OK, you blatantly bum them. It's not like he said they were shit he just gave them tips on how to (in his opinion) better themselves.

Let's not cry is it?

Heron; mate, I wish to register my delight in welcoming you to the club!

Well done.

O and by the way this is an honest review that doesn't intend to merely degrade the band but instead offers advice which is productive, if it was me; and luckily it wasn't, I'd have simply gone for "shit and I can't be arsed with it" but then I'm not always the most open minded of reviewers - counter bullshit with bullshit there's a motto for you.
