The Screaming Lights - GMN/Glow

The Screaming Lights - GMN/Glow

Anti/Epitaph

Hailing from Liverpool, the city that has flattered to deceive ever since The Beatles cashed in the entire city’s musical talent forever - NAUGHTY Fab Four! - Screaming Lights are a bit like a scouse version of The Music, and not just for their curls.

This double A-side starts off with "GMN"; opening with ridiculously melodramatic synths, taken from some terrible 80’s German dance track, “GMN” soon changes tack altogether with relentless guitars driving the song on alongside vocals that border a little too closely on a measured croon, before the synths reappear.....and the crowd go “eek”. Synths are great lads, just don’t buy them from Argos! OK yes, I am sure it’s really a Korg, but even they can sound shit, you know? “GMN” is sure to appear on ‘Songs you can drive your car really fast to on your way home from the pub, which really you shouldn’t be doing after those 4 Stellas’ in the near future. I’ll be on the bus with something far less tiresome on my iPod, glad that I didn’t get in the car with that idiot.

The more steady paced “Glow” is much more interesting. Centred around a rather nice guitar strum and minimal vocals, it suffers only from being a little too comfortable where it is, although this could perhaps be explained by the band running out of ideas for it? But still, it demonstrates that Screaming Lights could have something to offer if they stay away from the naff synths, and hold back on the vocals a bit. Less is more boys, less is more....for you guys at least.
