Anarbor - The Natural Way [EP]

I was expecting the same old, same old when it came to Anarbor - another pop rock band that was overly-ambitious and had that we-can-take-over-the-world-even-though-we're-not-that-good vibe - and in my opinion, that's pretty much what I got. The singer, Slade Echeverria, sounds very much like Orson, whether that's good or bad, you decide. I have to admit though, the music is pretty decent and they are good musicians, there's no hiding that - same for the production.

Their first track, Love Instead, is the classic single song. You can imagine it being that first song on their MySpace that constantly plays automatically as soon as you hit their page and return to their page after viewing their pictures or whatnot - and it is. It's a catchy piece and it's deservedly in that spot as you can imagine their fans singing it back to them, enjoying themselves. This song certainly has that 'feel good' vibe.

Quote:

I feel like I'm just floating away/ oh god I wish that I could stay/ It's hard I admit but baby don't quit/ we can make it yeah/ we can make it
The Brightest Green, which is quite evident from their album cover, is their second song on this EP. This is where the real influence of Orson came in for me. It sounds quite like an Orson song. But anyway, aside from him, this is another catchy tune, with more of the downbeat lyrics.

Quote:

I'm burn burn burning / my stomachs turning / my hearts giving into my eyes/ I'm stare stare staring / at the skin she's sharing /my hearts giving into my eyes.
The third song, Right There With You, feels and sounds just like the rest - more of the downbeat 'I'm giving up, I might as well' lyrics come into play. Despite these depressing lyrics, the music still remains quite upbeat, which is surprising. However, the last track's music, Passion for Publication, is quite downbeat which suits the lyrics this time around, but I can see people loving this music.

Anarbor are certainly a band that will appeal to many people and will definitely reach when supporting Cute is What We Aim For this year, and good luck to them.

Tracks:

1. Love Instead
