Abraham Levitan - Speak, Memory [Album]

Abraham Levitan - Speak, Memory [Album]

Luja Records 2008

There’s one thought that passed through my mind after listening to Abraham Levitan’s first solo effort, “Speak, Memory,” the man is going for a seemingly entirely new sound. Personally, I’ve never heard any artist like Levitan. His sound is original, unique, distinctive, rare, or any other synonym that might cross your lips.

Levitan is the front man and organist for the Chicago based band Baby Teeth, a self-described “melodramatic, popular song, idol, healing and easy listening.” With adjectives like that at the forefront of your mind you’re equipped to give Speak, Memory a listen.

Speak, Memory is a relatively short album featuring only eight tracks. Musically the songs are very different from each other, a difference that drives the album’s originality and singularity. Lyrically, the songs are replete with personal experience and real life stories presumably extracted from the life of the singer/songwriter.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t LOVE this album. It was a good listen but not something I would run out and buy.

Track Listing:

Weekend at Home
If it Bleeds, Pt 1
Sarah (The German Song)
Slave to Efficiency
Bad Weather
Violator
Please Me
Little Helicopters
