Tropic Thunder Motion Picture Soundtrack

Before I watched the Tropic Thunder movie I was deeply enthusiastic and excited about it. It seemed very good in the trailers and commercials I had seen and felt to me like it was sure to be a hit. In my eyes, anything with Jack Black in it was an instant 'pass' in my books. All his previous movies were excellent - School of Rock, Tenacious D the list goes on...I have to admit, in my opinion this movie is an exception to the rule. I found it to be terrible and Jack Black was given, to be fair, a pretty shitty role acting as a drug addict whilst the others, [Stiller, Downey Jr and Cruise] acted their roles averagely. I wanted to review this soundtrack to see if it at least had good music... I wasn't impressed.

With a mix of dance, rave and pop, the soundtrack starts in a dismal way. Not that it was bad music, just not my style for sure. Nor the style of the movie. The most interesting part in the first three tracks was the harmonica solo during the third track, 'Run Through the Jungle' by Creedence Clearwater Revival which was excellent, I really like that track. The same cannot be said for the next track which I don't even want to talk about!! Despite this harsh criticism the next song made me smile. 'U Cant Touch This' the old classic by MC Hammer and if anyone has seen the movie, it reminded me of the famous Tom Cruise dance during the film. Hilarious indeed.

I can't say much for the rest of the record because quite frankly, I didn't think much of it and it will certainly not be staying on my iPod or on my computer. There were some great tracks on the soundtrack like I have mentioned. 'Run Through the Jungle', 'U Can't Touch This' and also 'I'd Love to Change the World' but I wouldn't suggest this soundtrack to anyone to be completely honest with you.

So... don't buy this soundtrack and don't watch the movie because it's not that good. But if I was to suggest either one or the other, watch the movie to see that famous dance performed by Tom Cruise!

I completely disagree with this review. I just watched the movie on the plane and as people can appreciate, the experience of a movie on a plane is nowhere near as good as in the movie theatre. This being said I LOVED the movie. Yet another Ben Stiller classic with as much fun and stupidity as all of his movies. I have not listened to the soundtrack CD but from what I remember of the movie there was a bunch of great tracks used and they really helped to push the movie along in the right places.

If you are a fan of Ben Stiller's work you should defo watch this movie. I also think that for the first time in A LONG TIME Tom Cruise played a role outside of his comfort zone and did an amazing job of it too.

It's not often I disagree with a review but I totally disagree with this one.

Oh don't get me wrong - I agree with what you said about Tom Cruise, he did very well, especially the dance but I felt, overall, let down. I suppose I maybe, wrongly, thought this because I felt hugely let down by Jack Black's role so much that it ruined the whole movie for me.

I also remember some good songs in the movie - but they didn't appear on the soundtrack, such as the one Cruise did a dance to. Oh well. I hope I haven't turned anyone against this, too much, but I was just voicing my, disappointed, feelings and opinions.

Surely the fact that they chose CCR to appear on it at all should give them an overall rating higher than 30%?! (Okay, maybe I'm biased...!)
But I do wonder why Sympathy for the Devil was passed up for the soundtrack??

That CCR track was great, I loved it! Best one in there. I just got the feeling with this soundtrack that they didn't have a clue what to pick and just bunched a random number together.
